JEAN ROBINSON Obituary

Jean Webb Robinson 1918 ~ 2010 After 92 years of loving and encouraging those around her, Jean Webb Robinson passed into her Heavenly Father's arms October 1, 2010 in St. George, Utah. Jean was the second daughter of Doctor Alma Jarvis and Nurse Grace Brown Webb. She was born September 30, 1918 in Ogden, Utah and married Marion William Robinson December 26, 1942, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Sweetheart "Min" passed September 28, 1985. Jean was a graduate of Weber High School and Brigham Young University where she earned her degree in Physical Education, later teaching at Lincoln High School and Dixon Junior in Orem, Utah. During World War II, Jean worked as a Union Station reservationist in Washington D.C. while Marion was stationed in Fort Myers, Virginia. After settling in American Fork they opened "Robinson's Sporting Goods" working side by side for over 40 years and providing many girls and boys with their first bicycles, mitts and bats. They also extended their passion for the outdoors (Jean loved to ski) by creating and supporting recreational opportunities within the community. Jean's hands were never idle; as a gardener, she enjoyed starting new rose cuttings under mason jars and crocheted numerous afghans for family, friends, and humanitarian services. She was an avid traveler--her suitcase always packed for that next big trip. Writing Road Show scripts and directing Stake Dances were also among her favorite activities. At 76, she served as Relief Society President, remarking that she had now been "recycled" by the 7th Ward. Her testimony of Jesus Christ and the power of prayer were unshakable and never compromised. Jean's optimism, gratitude, humor, hard work, tenderness, the ability to tell a good story, and especially her valued friendship with others are the legacy she passes on to her posterity. She is survived by daughter Janice and her husband Terry Howick; three grandchildren, Julie (Chris) Cantera, Salt Lake; Travis Howick, Salt Lake; and Jenna (Bryan) Tilt, Corvalis, Oregon. Jean delighted in her great- grandchildren: Ryan (15), Caroline (13), Sophie (9), Elizabeth (6) Cantera; and Avery (6) and Miriam (3) Tilt. Preceded in death by brother Jay Webb (Idaho Falls), sister Ruth Wilson (St. George), and sister Maxine Carter (Ogden). Jean's last years were spent at Mesa Palms Beehive Home in St. George, where the kind and caring staff were like family. A memorial service is scheduled Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, located at 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah. Family will greet friends beginning at 9:45 a.m. Jean will be interred at the American Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Jean requested donations to the American Fork Senior Citizens' Center.
