BARBARA GIBBY Obituary

Barbara Gibby 1915 ~ 2009 Barbara Marion Gibby passed away at home from causes incident to age on December 23, 2009. Barbara was born in a tent in Magna, Utah, on September 26, 1915, the daughter of H. L. Allen and Matilda Smith Allen. She married the love of her life, Eldon C. Gibby, on February 18, 1935, and they spent 72 wonderful years together. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on May 18, 1996, with all five sons and their wives present. Barbara is survived by her brother, Roy Allen; five sons and their wives, Ronald (Wilma), Saratoga Springs; Richard (Evelyn), Farmington; Robert (NaDine), South Jordan; Steve (Becky), West Jordan; and Jerry (Zoe), Frisco, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Wilma; three brothers John, Stan, and Herbert; a sister-in-law, June Allen; and two great-grandsons. Barbara graduated from Granite High School, where she met her future husband. She was a stay-at-home mom her entire life, working tirelessly to keep a spotless house, prepare delicious meals for her husband and five growing sons, wash and mend clothes, and everything that goes with managing a household. Barbara enjoyed going on family camping and fishing trips. It wasn't until her sons had left home that she and her husband were able to go on a real vacation to Hawaii to visit her older brother. During her later years she developed a talent for oil painting. Many of her beautiful paintings were given to her children and grandchildren, who treasure them as a lasting memory of her. When her hand was no longer steady enough to paint, she devoted her free time to crewel embroidery, creating beautiful wall pieces that are greatly prized by family members. Our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother will be greatly missed by all her family and friends who dearly loved her. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Barbara's home care crew-Sandy, Lee, and Netsy-who took turns staying with her for almost four years so she could continue to live in her home. She loved them like the daughters that she never had, and they, in turn, treated her like their own mother. We are grateful that they always went the extra mile to make her life as comfortable as possible. The family also thanks Becky Price, the hospice nurse, who was so faithful in caring for Barbara the last couple of years of her life; to Neva Stephens who visited her every day; and to Rev. Brower who counseled with Barbara weekly. The Funeral Services will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St., Murray, Utah, Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., with a viewing at 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment: Lake Hills Cemetery. Online condolences: www.jenkins-soffe.com
