Cal Andrus Will Be Missed BRIGHAM CITY - Calvin "Cal" Scofield Andrus, 77, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Friend, died May 19, 2010 in Brigham City, Utah after battling heart disease for several years.He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George E. Andrus and Laverna Terry, and spent his childhood in the rural community of Draper. He attended Jordan High School and East High School, participating in football and basketball. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1952. At the end of his military service he met and married the love of his life, Sharon M. Adair. Cal consistently made strong choices throughout his life that demonstrated his love and commitment to his family. As a young husband and father he completed a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. He worked in the aerospace industry for his entire career with Boeing, Thiokol Chemical, Douglas, North American, and in 1966 he moved his family from Huntington Beach, California back to Brigham City to complete his career with Thiokol. In 1985 he was recognized for his excellent support of the Space Shuttle program, receiving the Silver Snoopy Award. Cal retired in 1995 after leading the Solid Rocket Motor Handling organization. Cal successfully balanced the demands of being a father to a large family, an invigorating and demanding career, and religious dedication and service. In 1972 he completed an MBA degree from Utah State University. He served the community as the Bishop of the LDS 8th and 24th wards in Brigham City and served actively in a wide variety of other church capacities. He coached little league baseball, football and church basketball. He volunteered at a local credit union. He always found time to be together with his family in activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, and boating. He loved aviation and enjoyed flying small planes. Cal was very outgoing and caring, always having many good friends throughout his life, with whom he was able to share many lasting memories. In recent years, Cal and Sharon served two LDS missions in both Argentina and at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. They have been able to travel the world together visiting many sites in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Pacific, as well as throughout the United States. Cal was active in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers organization and was a member of the Good Sam's Club, Peach City Chapter. Always physically active throughout his life, he continued cycling even when challenged by health concerns during his last few years. Cal is survived by his wife, Sharon, his seven children, David Calvin (Janet), Pam Rennemeyer, Michael (Monica), Terry Leavitt (Scott), Brian (Jill), Mary Everett (Ethan), Richard (Sharlotte), and his brother Paul (Fran). He was preceded in death by four brothers. Cal has 32 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three more on the way. He will be sorely missed and leaves behind a great legacy of hard-work, dedication, and love of family. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 24th Ward LDS Chapel, 650 Anderson Drive, with Bishop Clive McMillan conducting. A viewing will be held Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Church.
