EVAN NEBEKER Obituary

Evan Austin Nebeker 1970 ~ 2009 Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandson, friend, and advocate returned to our Heavenly Father on September 5, 2009.He was born on October 26, 1970 in Salt Lake City to Kent Arthur Nebeker and Patricia Anne Leese, the eldest and only son of seven children. He married his sweetheart, Taunya Kaye Tuke, on May 3, 1996 in the Logan Utah Temple for time and eternity. Their three little miracles, Cannon Arthur, Connor Austin, and Corbin Anders, came as a long-awaited blessing on Dec. 24, 2002. Evan was a recipient of a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah. He then earned a Juris Doctorate from Capital University School of Law. After passing the Utah State Bar, he was employed by the State of Utah as a Guardian ad Litem in Third District Court. Evan spent his life in the service of others. He was a devoted family man, dedicated missionary, trusted and valued friend, and a voice for those who had no other. As we feel him ever present in our lives and rejoice in the blessings of his legacy, we look forward to seeing him again. Evan, we love you. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pebble Hills Chapel, 8735 South 1065 East. Viewings will be held at the chapel, Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in behalf of Cannon, Connor, and Corbin. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank.

Working for DCFS will never be the same without Evan fighting in our corner for our children. He always had their best interests at heart. To all of Evan's family... words cannot express how sorry I am for you'r loss, but just know that now he is around all of us making sure that we are all ok. The short time that Evan was on this Earth he did so much good, now he get's to do it off the Earth. Evan I will miss you and all of you'r silly emails. Thanks for being such a bright light in a dimly lit tunnel.

Evan Nebeker and I shared an office wall. His office had a window so I spent a lot of time with him discussing our lives, our jobs and everything else in the world. Evan is a funny man. He is caring and he brought joy. My heart mourns for our loss. But I am full of hope. He brought hope to friends and family and to those children he so diligently represented. My love to the family and my hope that you will find strength and feel our love.

I saw Even in court just before his passing. He was advocating for his clients, 10 little children who he wanted to make certain had beds. We DCFS were orderd to get beds within 48 hours. I talked to my workers about this presher thinking they might resent it. All said Evan was a pleashure to work with, and my worker who was given the job of finding beds reported that Evan was his favorite Gardian Ad-litem. He would listen and was reasonble and worked in a calaboritive way in the interest of the children he advocated for. He also mentioned that Evan went out to proctore homes and foster homes and checked in a personal way on the welfair of his young clients.
I am sorry for your loss to a person I along with the seven case workers I supervise will missed his presance.

Memories of Evan abound; some humorous, some serious, some playful, some reflective. My overriding sense of Evan and his life is one of "enthusiasm." Whether the conversation was his family, his work, barbeque or life in general Evan met the dictionary definition of going through life with "intense or eager interest; zeal." He was incredibly animated about the children he represented and worked hard, in and out of court, to make sure their lives would be better. Evan found great pleasure and satisfaction in getting the "right" decision for his clients and would often share his insights with his fellow guardians. He clearly loved being a father. Whenever he talked about his triplets and on the occasions when I saw him with them he clearly beamed with the joy of being a father and the pride he took from having 3 great kids.
Evan also had a very unique brand of humor which was a slightly different way of looking at the world. He would often tell hilarious stories, especially about his past missionary work in Central America and how that shaped his future view of the world. Evan was endearing with his slightly irreverent views and was very amusing with his comments.

I am Anthony Worthington's aunt. Without Evan, well, Anthony's voice would have been too small to hear. He was always a comfort to us as we sat in court. He will be missed greatly. Our prayers are with your family. Trisha Lloyd (SLC)

Yesterday I read with great sadness about the passing of Evan. As a caseworker for the Division of Child and Family Services I had the opportunity to work with Evan; the children Evan represented were truly blessed to have such a fierce advocate in their corner. Evan you gave a strong voice to the children of Utah, often at their most vulnerable time; thank you Evan and thank you for always remembering it was for the children.

To Evan’s wife, his children and his family words can not express how truly sorry I am for your tremendous loss, you will be in the thoughts and prayers of many.

September 9, 2009

Taunya - my heart is so heavy for your loss of soul mate and eternal husband. I never knew Evan but I know that he has taken good care of you and the boys. I was so grateful when you moved back into Utah, giving us an opportunity again to work with you. May your faith be strong at this time - and know that you are thought of with fondness and love. May our Heavenly Father, family members, and coworkers help you through these hard times ahead. Love to you and the boys. Trudy Curtis

I am sure the Nebeker's loss is larger than all of ours put together, but as a member of DCFS who worked closely with Evan on numerous occassions I can tell you the loss to the entire State of Utah is vast. Evan was an outstanding Guardian ad Litem; he always went above and beyond for the children. Evan helped make a very difficult job one we could enjoy. May his gifts live on in his children!

To the family of Evan: My sympathies are with you at this difficult time. Please know that Evan was very special. When he spoke of his wife and wonderful three little boys, his face lit up with his love for them. I worked with Evan for a very short time in the GAL Office. On occasion, he would bring his boys to the office and introduce them proudly to his co-workers. His kindness to me was very much appreciated during some difficult times. Abraham Lincoln said, "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years." Evan served others with dedication and love. May his memory be eternal.
