Josephine Baughman Obituary

Josephine (Peppy) Blockovich Baughman
March 4th, 1920-0ctober 18th, 2013
Lark/Copperton-Mom passed away at my home peacefully on October 18th of natural causes. She was born March 4th, 1920 to Joseph and Eka Blockovich. She married Virgil Baughman July 1st, 1952 in a little Catholic church in Las Vegas, Nevada. She lived in Lark, Utah for 59 years before moving to Copperton, Utah in 1980. She worked at the Lark Mercantile, Lark Post Office, and retired from the Copperton Post Office in 1997. She loved working with the public and met some wonderful people. She worked at Camp Kearns while in her 20's. We loved her stories about this Army base and the stories of her youth as a young girl in Lark. Grandma Jo was a bright light in our world, always smiling and never complaining.
She is survived by her daughter Sally, son-in-law Bill, son John, and grandchildren Billy Boy (Julia), Brandy, Breanne (Chris), great-grandchildren TJ and Nicholas, and her loving sister-in-law Vera. Preceded in death by her husband Virgil, parents, and brothers Tom and John.
We wish to thank Pine Mountain Health and Hospice for the kind and loving care provided to her. With a special thank you to "her" Tanya, her best friend. I wish to thank my friends and colleagues at Zion's Bank for giving me the opportunity to be with Mom and care for her during this time.
Viewing at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State St., Midvale, Utah, Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with Holy Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services Thursday, October 24th at Immaculate Conception Parish, 8892 West State Highway 48, Copperton Utah, viewing 10:00-11:00 a.m., funeral mass 11:00 a.m. Interment, Bingham Canyon Cemetery.

Dearest Sally and all the Family
So Sad to hear of the loss of your beloved Jo. She will be greatly missed and greatly remembered. Josephine was one of the most beautiful women I have ever met or known. Her beauty shone brightly from the inside to the outside and surrounded all that were within that brilliant aura. Just to sit by her in church and to hold her gracious and loving hands I would feel her gift of love and life permeating into my self, making me feel closer to God in those moments during the mass. I looked forward to seeing her and thank you Sally, for sharing your gift with me. I was honored and blessed to have known Her.
May God wrap Joshepine in eternal safety and warmth and keep you all in comfort and strength during these transitional times for you and your family.
With love, sympathy and thankfulness~

Dear Sally,

I'm so sorry I was unable to come to your mother's viewing or funeral. I was already committed in both time slots.

My prayers are with you and your family. I have heard glowing reports of your mother's character from those who knew her well. I'm not surprised that such a lady raised you, because of the similarity between those reports and who I know you to be.

I treasure our friendship, Sally and hope your loving memories of you mother and the Spirit of the Lord will comfort you as you navigate the days ahead.

Please let me know what I can do for you as you deal with your loss.

Love and condolences,

Wayne Palmer

Dear family,
We knew you Mom/Grandmother as Jo Blockovich (and later as Baughman). I remember her working at the Lark Merc when I was a child. She was just the most positive and delightful adult woman (outside of my family ) that I knew as a child. She always had her beautiful dark curly hair nicely done and wore red lipstick and nail polish! I thought she was beautiful and she was unfailingly nice to all the children in town as a young single woman - we all loved her! My Dad was a geologist at the Lark Mine and my Mom taught school in Lark for many years, and our whole family liked Jo. I live in Holladay Utah now and have for 40 years, but have many fond memories of Lark and the wonderful people who lived there (like Jo). How lucky y'all were to have her in your lives!

Dearest Sally and Family - My mom (Ann Dahl) just told me of your sweet mom's passing. I remember her so well, especially when I was younger, and she would be at Baba Kosovich's. She always had such a big smile on her face, which was filled with love! In her later years, Sally, I remember the loving care you gave to her. Even though Peppy lived a long and full life, I'm sure that you will deeply miss her. May the sweet memories you have of her, as well as your faith that you will once again be united with her, bring you comfort and peace. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Annette Dahl Brailsford

Sally and family
I really enjoyed seeing your mom, both in Lark and Copperton post offices. I would spend quite a while just purchasing stamps! I smiled just looking at her sweet face on this page. She was a wonderful person and you were all so blessed to have her in your lives, and she was so happy to tell me about all that was going on with her family. So proud of you all!

Dear Sally, John and family,
I first met your Mom when I did my student teaching at Lark Ele. I then taught there from 1963- 1966. What a vibrant, fun lady! My mother enjoyed her company at the Copperton P.O. and felt the same as I did about her. I have wondered about the three of you over the years. I taught for 37 years and Lark was my favorite school. I hope the good thoughts you are getting about your Mom will help you through the days ahead. She was a delight!

JO was the first lady that told me the story of Camp Kearns. Shes the one that made me want to put it in a book. She worked at a sandwich shop inside the camp. . She told me so many wonderful stories about what went on in the camp. A soldier gave her a popcycle stick with his name on it and wanted her to remember him because he thought he was going to die in the war and he had no kin. She slipped it behind the price sign on the wall. She told me in no time the walls were covered with popcycle sticks from many many soldiers wanting her to remember them. She told me she wrote letters to the first soldier until he stopped writing back. She never knew whether he died or just lost interest. She must have been very popular with those troops. She told me that some of the men talked he into dancing on the table to cheer up some of the men being shipped out. She did. She had a fantastic personality. I never met her, but I can promise you she was an incredable lady. I did have a chance to meet her daughter at the state capitol one day. It was a true honor. I wished I would have taken the time to meet her.

I have such nice memories of your mom. She lived down the street from my grandma (Hilda) in Lark and we would visit her or see her at the post office. She always seemed to have a big smile on her face! My condolences.

We were so sad to see of Jo's passing. When she moved to Copperton, she became such as asset to the community.
