Melvin Peterson Obituary

Melvin Dale "Pete" Peterson
1936 ~ 2011
On September 30, 2011, our Husband, Father, Grandfather and dear friend lost his courageous 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Dale was born at home on December 24, 1936 in Myton, Utah to Niels Louis and Effie Mary Ann Ditlevsen Peterson. He married Darlene Brady on November 3, 1958, later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on April 16, 2011.
Family was the most important part of his life. From a young age, Dale was dedicated to caring for his parents and maintaining close relationships with all of his siblings. He worked in the bee-keeping and construction businesses with his brothers, establishing a strong work ethic. He carried these values into his adult life as he became a husband and father. Together, in 1964, Dale and Darlene started Peterson Auto Sales, where they made many lifelong friends. In his spare time, Dale enjoyed trap shooting, fishing, hunting, singing, playing the guitar and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, sons Michael (Tammy) and Monte (Michelle), daughter Jeanne and son-in-law Troy McQuillan; grandchildren Shelbey (Alex), Kanden, Alexa, Dallas, Justin, Alexandra, Mckel, Morgan and Maddie; sisters-in-law Oleta Peterson and Betty Peterson, numerous nieces, nephews and Darlene's extended family.
Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sherri Ann, sisters Aleda and Betty, brothers La Var, Dean, Evan, Reed, Vaughn, Keith and Max.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday October 5, 2011 at the Hillcrest Ward, 495 E. 5600 S. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday October 4, 2011 at the Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E. and one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We would like to thank them for the special care and kindness they showed our family.

Darlene, Mike, Jeanne & Monty; words cannot express the sorrow in losing Dale. I pray for a peace that passes all understanding over you. My Jesus said, "come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Praying that assurance over you for you to find rest in Him. It's been quite the road for you all but I know that you bore those burdens gladly because it was Dale. Love you guys very much. Anne

To the family that I always considered my second one while growing up. I am so sorry for your loss and you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Even after all these years whenever I would see Dale he always had a big smile and a big hug for me. Even though he is out of pain and has returned to many loved ones, he will be missed! I truly love your family.
