Nalene Low Obituary

Nalene Low
1970 ~ 2012
Our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed away suddenly on May 4, 2012 in Salt Lake City. Nalene was born on October 20, 1970 to John Sylvester and Coleen McCue Low in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Nalene excelled at everything she did from singing to sewing to baking competition-worthy cupcakes. Although she lived away from family, she made every effort to be involved in her nieces and nephew's lives. Nalene served honorably in the Tucson Arizona mission. After her mission, Nalene attended BYU and graduated with a degree in journalism. She was a dedicated and thoughtful friend, roommate, neighbor, co-worker and church member. She worked at Broadcast International for over 15 years and was a dedicated and loyal employee. Nalene had a way with words and always knew exactly what to say at the right moment and had perfect comedic timing. Nalene was beautiful inside and out and was known for being a friend to everyone she met.
Our hearts are saddened at her passing and know that through our combined love and testimonies of the Savior, Jesus Christ, that we will see her beautiful smile again.
Survived by: parents (Calgary, Canada), siblings John "S" (Colleen), Kristeli (Hugh) Burns, LaSchelle, MarNai (Greg) Johnston, and Robert (Lilly), three nieces and nine nephews.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m at the Union Fort Stake Center (7155 South 540 East). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9th at 6:30 p.m. with a viewing that evening from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the same location.

Nalene was always so sweet, gentle and funny; even though we sometimes treated her as the little sister she was to so many of her's sister's friends. I know much time has passed, but I have just learned of Nalene's passing. I am deeply sorry for your loss and wish you comfort and peace.

May 18, 2012

Learned of Nalene's passing today at work from an article in the newspaper here in logan utah. To the Lows, you may not remember me (Quinn Perry) but we knew you well many years ago. I speak on behalf of the Perry family (Sylvia) and express our heart felt condolences.

Is it possible to love someone so much after only having spent 3 weeks with them? It is if it was Nalene. Nay and I were MTC mission companions first but became instant friends. I knew she was a keeper and so I kept in contact with her through the year. She was truly one of my best friends. Her love for my husband and kids was very evident as she came to blessings, baptisms, recitals, Sunday dinners, and primary programs whenever she could. My family met and loved her as quickly as I did and my husband and kids loveded her too. I was blessed to have gotten to spend so much more time than I usually get to with her the entire month before she passed. Nalene, I love you, I miss you, I want to be just like you someday. I love how the stake president said it at her funeral: if we all love her this much, can you blame Heavenly Father for wanting her back? I can't wait to see you again, Nay! Until then, sweet friend...

I just met Nalene and her parents about a year ago. What wonderful people! Nalene is one of the few people that I know that could brighten a room just by being there. I truly enjoyed the short time that I knew her. Her faith and her family were the most important things in her life. I have no doubt that she will be watching over them from the other side. My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time.

Nalene was and is still loved by so many. I remember her smile and she seemed so "together" in all areas at all times. She helped me move into my condo even though she barely knew me at the time and she stayed late into the night helping me even when I was ready to quit.
We were in the Singles ward together and she is lovingly remembered for her compassionate service and caring, loving soul. She is greatly missed and it is my prayer that you may find comfort during the difficult days ahead...the thoughts and prayers of so many are with her family and loved ones at this time.

While reading the paper Monday, I noticed a picture of a beautiful girl, close to my age. I felt compelled to read the obituary and was surprised to recognize names! It' s been around 30 years since my family made the trek from Ohio to Calgary, but I still remember having so much fun with our Canadian cousins at a house by a lake. I am so sorry for your loss. Praying that your family will have peace and comfort through this difficult time.

I worked with Nalene for a few years at BI and I'm saddened to learn of her passing. I've never seen someone as giving as she is and never once did I hear of her speaking badly. She never complained about anything and always worked to the best of her ability with the things she had to work with. Always happy and truly saw the best in people. She taught me a lot but just observing her and I will miss her dearly. The world we live in will be a little less brighter now and can't wait until we meet again.

I met Nalene when she first came to Salt Lake. I loved her accepting nature and her kindness to those around her. I also lived in Alberta, Canada for a couple years and it was fun to talk about "Oh Canada" and all of its wonders. You will be missed Nalene.

I agree wholeheartedly with Debbie of WVC: Nalene was so vivacious and vibrant you cannot help but be engulfed by her positive spirit. I was privileged to have worked with her these past few years at RRW events. She was a Cool Chick – I already miss her.

It was truly a pleasure to have known such a wonderful person. I had the opportunity to work close with Nalene at BI. One word stands out when thinking of her, GIVING. Nalene was always willing to help me with my work and answer my questions as I was a newcomer. I would always try to get her to talk in her "voice over" voice. I also enjoyed the potlucks and other holiday festivities she would organize. She will truly be missed.

It sounds like Nalene was alot like her sister LaSchell whom we have loved for many years. LaSchelle was always,it seemed, happiest when she was about to be with her family. While the missing of Nalene willl be great, how lucky she was to have such a loving, happy family, and a joyous life. We hold you all warmly in our hearts
and prayers and know know you will find comfort in knowing this is only a temporary separation.

I didn't know Nalene, but I know some of her good friends, and the beauty of those friends speaks volumes about Nalene. They love her so that it's hard not to be a part of their grieving. Bless you, Low family and friends of Nalene as you work through this heartfelt loss.

What a joy it was to join Nalene in singing in "The Messiah" each year at Christmas time for many years. Even though we only saw each other during the Christmas season of the year, we made the most of it! Not only did we sing and feel the Spirit that comes with "The Messiah", we also got together and played games and ate. It truly was "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!"
What a joy you are to know, Nalene! I look forward to singing with you again someday.
With Love, Kendra Divine

What an honor to have associated with Nalene, who was a great collegue and a truly wonderful friend. To have her depart so soon leaves a hole in lives that over time, will be filled with many great memories and faith in a "hoped for" reunion day. Nalene is, and will always be, a model of determination, kindness and grace. Her life is a testiment of bringing joy to those who had occasion to meet and be around her. I offer my sincere wishes of comfort and healing to the Low family and to the many others who shared portions of their lives with her.

Dear Friends and Family of Nalene:
What a very hard time this is for all of you. I understand what you are going through since I too lost one of my daughters a few years ago. Please know that the scriptures can bring peace to your souls, as does the Savior's atonement. I knew Nalene through my daughter, Amy, who loved Nalene so much. What a great friend she was. We sympathize with you and pray that peace to your hearts will come quickly. She is a beautiful daughter, sister, Aunt and friend. She will be missed by so many. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and a hole in hearts is left by her passing so early in her young life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

Nalene and I--we had history. Two years my senior, we grew up in the same ward and when we were "Old Maids" in Salt Lake City, we'd sometimes hang out together. And I always always looked forward to catching up on all her news whenever I'd go home for Christmas.

She was funny, talented and like the big sister I never had. And she will be dearly missed.

Nalene was my visiting teacher for the last 8 months, she always made me feel so loved and welcomed into the branch. She had been planning to come and visit me yesterday...I will miss her monthly visits and her visits at church every Sunday. She always wanted to hear about my adventures... even if they weren't very exciting. She made me feel like one of the most loved people in the world, what an awesome visiting teacher and genuinely true person!! I am so glad I had the opportunity to get to know her and will forever be blessed for having had her in my life. I am so glad we have the knowledge of the gospel plan in our lives to know that we will see her again!

To Nalene's family,

I worked with Nalene a number of years ago at Broadcast International. I am very sad to hear of her passing. I believe she was a beautiful and articulate person. I know she wrote and voiced the ads at her work and every so often I would go into a grocery or drug store and I'd hear Nalene's voice, advertising products, over the loud speakers. It would make me smile and remind me of the old days. She was a great person to work with.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Nalene was a special person to me, I love her so much. We had so many fun times together and I am grateful for those memories I have of her. She was my friend, my rock, my confidant. She was real, she was genuine, she was strong in faith and in body, she was amazing. She could always make you smile and laugh no matter what kind of mood you were in, she lifted your spirits. Although all of my memories of her make me smile and laugh, it makes me so sad to think about not seeing her smile or hearing her laugh again in this lifetime. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I know a big hole will be left in a lot of lives with her passing. I love you Nalene!

May 7, 2012

Sister Low was my trainer and I her last mission companion on her mission. I am so grateful for the tone she set for me as I went forth to serve the Lord. What an amazing person and example. I am so sorry for her loss and so grateful for the Plan of Salvation I know she believed in. I know she is singing to all of us "God be with you till we meet again" as she is now with Him.

Nalene was always one of my heroes. I have fond childhood memories, including our trip to Canada. But I will never forget the year she spent Thanksgiving at Althea's while she was at BYU. I felt so young, awkward and incomplete. She was so graceful, intelligent, witty and kind.

I cherish the letters we wrote while she was serving her mission and her example was certainly part of my inspiration in deciding to serve a mission myself.

We lost touch for a while, but I will be forever grateful that we were able to reconnect through singing the Messiah. We could hardly believe our good fortune that first year when we ran into each other. And for me it was like having a little piece of the puzzle slide back into place in my heart.

Every year I looked forward to the months we would spend our early Saturday mornings rehearsing. Selfishly, I would practically push others aside to make sure I could sit next to her so we could laugh together. I loved hearing the beautiful tone of her voice guiding me through the challenging notes of Handel's masterpiece.

Nalene was, and is my hero. I wish I would have told her that while I had the chance. But I'm quite sure she knows anyway. The thought of not being able to see her again in this life shatters my heart, but I am grateful to know that we will all get to see her again. I always felt like our Messiah performances were enhanced by a heavenly choir on the other side of the veil and I take comfort in knowing that her angelic voice will still raise with mine in singing Hallelujah to our dear Savior.

Till we meet again...my hero, my cousin, my friend.
