Stanley Bonham Obituary

Stanley Bert Bonham
"Stan"
Stanley Bert Bonham, 85, died April 12, 2013 at his home in St. George, Utah of cause's incident to age. He was born in Ogden, Utah on June 2, 1927 to Rhoda Walker and Albert Wagner Bonham. He was the oldest of five children. His boyhood was spent exploring the "Greasewoods" in Clinton and Decker Lake in Granger. He served in the Navy in the medical corps toward the end of World War II and was part of the "Greatest Generation".
In 1946 he met the love of his life, Anne Marie Reynolds, on a blind date. They were married on January 2, 1948. On their 44th wedding anniversary their marriage was solemnized in the St. George temple accompanied by their children. He loved all his children, his 36 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren.
In 1962 he moved his family to a home in Granite, Utah where he could give his family the country experience and have a gentleman's farm. He had a great influence on the youth and served as a Sunday school teacher, young men's president, and various other callings, even as president of the ward choir. He was extremely grateful for his many blessings and credited God for all he had, especially his family. He loved the outdoors, sports, hunting, fishing and viewing wildlife in his backyard. He had a passion for beautiful cars.
Stan Bonham was an extraordinary man. He started his own agriculture implement business in 1958. Its success to this day is attributed to his honesty and hard work. He was president of the Cottonwood Kiwanis club where he introduced seat belts installed in the first vehicles in Salt Lake City. He was president of the Arabian Horse Club at a time when his family participated in horse shows in the Western U.S. He served for six years on the Utah State Bar Disciplinary Committee. In 1992 he received the "Distinguished Non Lawyer" award for his service to the profession. He was a member of the UTA Board when TRAX was being introduced to the Salt Lake Valley.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years and children; Craig & Bev, Leslie & Steve Rowe, Brent & Robin, Judy & Reed Cutler, Scott & Suzanne, Karen & Curt Waisath. Preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffry Taylor and great grandsons Benjamin and Grant Bonham.
The family wishes to thank the many neighbors and friends and ward members for their love and support during this difficult time. We especially thank Glassi, Shannon, April and the wonderful hospice care that he received.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary located at 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah- on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at the Church 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Memories of Stan

J. Newton

April 19, 2013

My brother-in-law, Stan Bonham was a good man; a tenth generation American, Stan was proud of his heritage, his civil war ancestry, and his Country which he served in World War II. He did much good in his life and always treated me better than I deserved. Of all his successes the greatest was the family he produced. I have missed him ever since he lost his hearing and quit using email. Now, I can look forward to talking with him again. Each member of his large family is blessed and each one knows why -- a lesson taught to them by his example and the love of his good wife, my oldest sis. Of all the things he gave me I treasure one the most. His salutation was always, "Howdy J. Newton," a singular gift shared only by he and I. I miss it a lot. I thank his wife and each of his children who have been so kind. They are a happy bunch and deserve the joy they have earned. God bless.

Even though you have been gone only a few days I miss you more than I can say, Grandpa. Thank you for being the BEST Grandpa ever. I am so lucky to have had you in my life. I will treasure all of the memories with you in them. I am so happy for you that you were able to peacefully pass into the next life at your beautiful home in St. George, with your loved ones surrounding you. I love you Grandpa, with all of my heart, and I look forward to seeing you again.

Stan was not only an excellent motor car client over the years, he was also a very good friend. I'll truly miss seeing and hearing from him on the telephone. A 45-minute telephone conversation with Stan was not at all uncommon. I wish his lovely wife, his kids and their spouses all the best.
