It is with indescribable sadness we announce the passing of Jaylen Lucas Garner of Burleson, Texas, four days shy of his 2nd birthday. He drowned in a pool where he swam and played often on September 21, 2013
Jaylen came to mortality ten weeks ahead of schedule on September 25, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah and spent the first five weeks of his brief life in a newborn intensive care unit at a local hospital. In fighting for survival at such a young age, he developed a zest for life. As soon as he could walk, he began exploring and could hardly be contained as he climbed on whatever obstacle came in his way. Always a happy child, his curiosity was as ubiquitous as his binky, his sparkling eyes and his charismatic smile. He loved balls of every kind and there was always a car or truck in his hands.
Jaylen is survived by his father and mother, Michael Clay Garner and Jane Cardall Garner who recently moved their family to Texas; brothers Christopher Michael and Ian Terrique, sisters Kaia Jane, Justus Itara, and Amaia Leilani; grandparents Duane Volker and Margaret Layton Cardall of Salt Lake City, and Loretta Lucas Garner and the late Henry Clay Garner of Orangeburg, So. Carolina along with dozens of loving and doting uncles, aunts and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 26, 2013 at noon at the Valley View 12th Ward, 2100 East Evergreen Avenue in Salt Lake City. Friends may pay their respects that same morning from 9:30 - 11:30 prior to the service. Jaylen will be buried beside his uncle Brian in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

he was my best friend and i miss him so much he wouldbe ten years old about now and i wish i could see him and his smiling face everyday,still some days i'm left crying my self to sleep knowing i will not see him in this life again but i try to think of the happy memories more than sad.

Dear Jane and Mike, Ian and Kaia. Our love and prayers go out to you today. We were so saddened to hear of cute little Jaylen's tragic death. We remember all the challenges he had in the beginning of his life. We loved watching him grow and his personality blossom. We really have missed you. You were such good neighbors and seeing your home empty and not being able to visit with you has left an empty spot in our heart. Dear family members, we are deeply saddened by your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We too have lost an infant niece suddenly and I remember feeling so helpless and sad. You don't know me, but I read Jaylen's obituary and I felt such sadness as I identified with you. I have a 20 month old grandson Grayson and his mother living with my husband and me. Grayson is the light of our lives and if we were to lose him, it would really be extremely difficult. Burying a child is not easy--parents are supposed to go first.We lost our oldest daughter when she was 38 due to an ugly disease, M.S. I took care of her for 20 years,and she went down inch by inch. How painful to see her go. May the Lord watch over you and your family. Families Are Forever. This will sustsain you as it has me.

Dearest Margaret and Duane, Jane and Michael and the entire Cardall family, We just heard about you sweet little Jayen's passing away and it just broke our hearts. You are like family to us and so we share these tough times that happen in our lives.
