I always enjoyed my interactions with Dr. Daw. Once we went with others to Albuquerque and back in Stahlman's Lear jet - an interesting interlude to a normal day. He was always interesting...

I'm so glad my sister ran into Mary at the NMSU bookstore my freshman year so that she could recommend taking Physics with professor Daw. I loved his enthusiasm at every class. Years later when I was student teaching he accepted my offer to come do a presentation for our first and second grade students at Jornada Elementary School where he spread his enthusiastic love of physics. He will be missed. Blessings to the family. We love you all and are thinking of you.

We were just thinking about you and looked you up to find out that Bishop Daw had moved on. Your were all the best Harold, Mary, Anthony, Marshall, Heidi, Kimberley. The others too, but those are the ones I remember best.
Buck, just today paid tribute to Mary Daw on the Friday Favorites on KBYU.
Thank you for much for everything.
Love,

Dear Sister Daw & Family:
I loved President Daw. He had such an impact on my life. I often quote him still today when I'm teaching (I teach the High Priests Group in my ward). I recall a meeting I attended years ago in which he said that he had a great gift – as a Bishop and Stake President, he didn't remember people's sins. He then said, “One day I hope I won't be able to remember my own.”
When I was a student at NMSU, I bumped into him one day on campus. He stopped to talk for a few minutes. At the end he said, “Which way was I going when we met?” I said, “That way.” He said, “Oh, I guess I've already had lunch.”
I recall the time he taught me to tie a bow tie. I was in the rest room in the Miranda Street building (Las Cruces) – this was in 1980. He came in. When he saw me he said, “Would you like to learn how to tie a bow tie?” I thought, ‘no' but said, ‘yes'. He took off his tie, I took mine off and he proceeded to show me how to tie a bow tie. Then he put his tie on and left. Only later did I learn that the costume person for the play I was in (“Because of Elizabeth”) had asked him to show me how to tie a bow tie, as she wanted me to wear one as a part of my costume. President Daw failed to mention that salient fact when he asked me if I wanted to learn to tie a bow tie. To this day, on those rare occasions when I have worn a tuxedo, I have always worn a ‘real' bow tie – because I know how to tie it! Also, on occasion I've shown grooms in the LA temple where I serve, how to tie their ties – I always relate the President Daw story to them.
If I had known sooner, I would have gone to the funeral – and I certainly would have worn a bow tie!!
I was so happy to see him and you, Mary, at my mother's funeral 4 years ago. Other than his loss of hearing he seemed the same as he ever was . . .

It was with great sadness that I learned of Dr. Daw's passing. He was a very fine gentleman who served as a tireless advocate for New Mexico State University. He had a strong, positive impact on the institution and the enrichment of our community. The grace of Dr. Daw's good works will be sustained through the many lives that he touched and the programs that he enriched.

Mary, My heart is filled with love as I pause to remember both of you. I am sad for your lonely hours until the two of you are reunited. I thank our Father in Heaven that we are blessed with the knowledge of eternal marriage and life. It is a comfort. May that knowledge and the Holy Ghost's presence comfort you. My love, Becky Ostler

I only met Dr. Daw briefly as we peered through a telescope at his son, Anthony's, home last summer. I now know where Anthony's keen intellect, inquisitiveness, passion for the sciences and compassion come from. My condolences and sympathy to Anthony and family at this difficult time.

I have wonderful and fond memories of his patience and kindness. He included me in youth activities with the teenage boys where we got to launch tennis balls across campus. I loved his bow ties, his attitude toward life, and his dedication to his family and his faith.

Tom and Carol Cyrs extend our sincerest sympathy for the loss of Harold Daw. Harold was a mentor and friend for many years at NMSU. I had the highest respect and fondness for his leadership and ideas. He had a strong impact on my professional and moral development. His devotion and commitment to his faith permeated his life and touched everyone. He was a living example of what he believed. He will be missed but we are sure he is where he belongs.

Sister Daw and family, I remember President Daw very well from the time I spent in Las Cruces. He was my stake president that sent me on my mission in January 1980. In our interview he told me a great story of a suitcase of bricks and how that related to carrying unconfessed burdens around. They both weighed us down in life. Great, sweet, kind man. My condolences are with you. Debbie Tinker

I came to NMSU in 1995, and I knew Harold as a retired member of the physics department. In retirement, he continued to work diligently on educational equipment for the department, and we still use many of his inventions. He was an old-school gentleman, a positive force in the department, and I missed him greatly after he moved away to Utah. I will always miss him.

We love you, Daw Family! You were the very best backyard neighbors ever. You had such an impact on our young family, offering babysitting, friendship, love and support, and best of all great examples of gospel principles. That natural love helped Bruce see the light of the gospel and accept baptism. Bruce learned so much from Harold serving on the high council for 8 of those years which Harold served as the stake president. I even made Bruce a bow tie to wear sometimes to church meetings in Harold's honor. We know he truly loved Mary. We loved to see the two of them serving in the Albuquerque temple when we were there.
We send our condolences, love and prayers to the entire family.
Love, Ruth and Bruce Buchanan

We don't know your family, but Mr. Daw sounds like a very interesting man and I have a 13 year old boy sitting here begging to know what a flame table and flame tube are. Thanks for the inspiration.

Dearest Mary. Bill & I will always indebted to you & Harold "our family's adopted LDS grandparents". We cherish the time we had with you in Peterborough where you taught us SO MUCH. You are perfect examples of the Christlike love we strive for. Harold was the cutest missionary example for me from the very beginning - ie. Market Basket, strolling down each aisle looking for someone new to engage in a missionary moment. " Hi! Could you help me? I'm not familiar with this (brand). My wife & I are here from NM serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...." Engage for a few minutes & then off to another aisle in search.... He made it seem soooo easy! EVERYONE whose life you both came in contact with (& he was AMAZING at meeting people) were enriched by meeting & knowing you!!! You are cherished loves in our family circle!!! We will miss him, but LOVE our memories! With our love, Lonnie & Bill.
