Oh Bill....
A tragic end to an amazing man...
You amazed as a brilliant chef.
My everlasting gratitude to you for cooking my favorite meal in the world for me, at the River Horse, every time we were in Park City. And Kelly's without equal cobblers. Every time! For years...
Then the really thoughtful and thorough planning that gave birth to THE MUSTANG. The business plan you created, on your own, that really blew away a couple of world-elite professionals in finance I shared that with. Still, among the very few entrepreneurs who turned down offers by investors. Even just lenders.
Then, you built it! You were successful at first seating, first evening. And, still, you cooked for grateful and proud, me.
The late nights at THE MUSTANG going over truly granular details of the business, every time I made it to Park City.
You were unique in many ways.
You occupy a special corner in my psyche and will do so forever.
RIP

Dear Kelly.
I hope this finds you after so many years...
We spoke after Bill's tragic passing...
Yet...
My best tribute to him is this many years later. As 2023 will soon fade away, I wrote about Bill in my new book soon to see international light. So much about Chef, so much beyond his brilliance in the kitchen.
So many hours spent before The Mustang became a reality. And thereafter.
Fondly, Steve Manning

Hey Kelly, it's been a long, long time and I just stumbled upon this terrible news. I wanted to express my deepest sorrow and condolences to you. Bill and I opened Rebecca's restaurant together. We were both pretty young, I was 25 and he was maybe 26. Before the opening, we got to hang out and do some cool things for "research" - like go to the best restaurants and wine tastings and chasing taco trucks in East LA. He was a super talent, great taste and ideas, a punk rocker and very smart - he used to love to embarrass me on Sunday's we'd be at the bar in the morning and he'd sit down and do the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle in record time (chiding me for my failure to ever make it halfway through). We had some pretty stressful days and nights at the opening and he was always cool under pressure. I'm blessed to have known him. Rest in Peace.

Our condolences go to Bill's wife and parents, Bill and Marie. We knew Bill when he was in Junior High school and know how proud his parents were as they watched him make a respected name for himself in Park City. He always had a smile to share. Rest well, Billy.

Dear Kelly,
Last night, I learned of Bill's passing from friends in PC. I live in Baltimore with a second home here and have known and been a big fan of Bill's for something like 20 years. When he opened Mustang we spoke often about his passion and we were supportive of his endeavor. I have a fond memory of having dinner with Bill one blizzard night when no one showed up for dinner except me and we sat together and spoke about life. So very sorry about your loss and the loss of so many of us who have had the pleasure on knowing Bill and enjoying his talents.

Dear kelly, I first me Bill when he was at DC3. My office was in the same complex and we had lunch there two to three times a week. We had a house in Park City since 1980 and imagine my surprise when I ran into him at the Riverhorse Cafe. We moved full time to PC in 1997. Boll discussed at length his plans for his own place. I introduced him to his banker and gave him lots of encouragement. We loved Mustang and ate there whenever we could. I am so sorry for your loss.

A supernovae of creativity in multiple directions, Bill was a inspiring & envelope stretching front man, composer, catalyst, guitarist, vocalist & originator in a primeval punk band in SLC from 1980 to 1982, at a time when most nights there were more people in the five member group than in the audience at the Roxy.
Yet another friend to meet up with an untimely death along their life trail, at least not as early as many others I once new and not before living an extremely creative, passionate and self-actualized journey.

Bill turned me on to the Tao te ching. A master of many arts. I have learned so much
from him."become totally empty.
Let your heart be at peace.
Amidst the rush of worldly comings and goings, observe how endings become beginnings.
Things flourish, each by each,
Only to return to the source...
To what is and what is to be".-lao tsu.
Namaste my brother.

We will remember Bill as a very creative person with a drive to achieve things in his own unique way. It was always energizing to be around him. He expanded our palates for not only food, but also music. We will always look back fondly on the years that we spent with Bill and Kelly sharing music, food and our outlooks on life. Thank you Bill. Wishing you peace on the other shore.

Bill was the big brother I never had. We worked thousands of long, hard hours together and had the highs and lows that always entails. I never stopped learning from him, about restaurants, business, philosophy, and life. His insights and intelligence were astounding, and I use what he taught me every day. I'll miss you Bill.

I was truly blessed a man like that allowed me to live my life with him. He was a big and gentle giant. He was one of the original SLC punks. He loved music. And played it with perfection. Was a lefty and a true husband. He has given the gift of sight as a final act of farewell. Fly far my beautiful love. I will look for him forever.OXOXOX
