David Dellenbach Obituary

March 16, 1990 ~ April 16, 2017
Richard Dellenbach was born March 16, 1990 in Salt Lake City, Utah and passed away on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 after suffering eleven years from a rare progressive, neurodegenerative brain disorder.
Rich lived a full twenty-seven years, enjoying many hours outdoors -- fishing, hiking, playing golf and soccer, and as an enthusiastic sportsman. Rich played on the Olympus Jr. High and High School golf teams and won a golf tournament at the University of Utah. He enjoyed fishing in New Zealand, off the coasts of Prince of Wales and Nantucket Islands, and on the Provo, Green, Logan, Cimarron, Wisconsin, and Columbia rivers and caught trophy-sized King Salmon on the Kenai River in Alaska.
Rich played competition league soccer and worked as a soccer referee. He was an excellent fly-fisherman and tied his own flies. Rich earned his Eagle Scout, loved camping and many outdoor adventures. He spent many fall days exploring for deer and elk in the mountains of Utah.
Rich was a good student and was known to be reliable, helpful and kind to those around him in school. After high school, Rich served a church and family history service mission for four years at the LDS Church office building, also volunteering at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Red Cross.
Rich was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and will always be known as a Christian and a servant of the Lord.
Rich is survived by his parents, David and Amy, and by his brothers, Andrew and Michael, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
The family would like to thank Rich's many friends, neighbors, doctors and hospital staff, including those at the University of Utah, Columbia University, IHC, Primary Children's and the Mayo Clinic.
A funeral in appreciation of Rich's life will be held at the LDS Ward located at 2625 Milo Way, Holladay Utah on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing for friends and family will be held the evening before on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Milo Way building between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

There has always been a wonderful spirit with Rich. We remember the day he was blessed and how unique his blessing was. We loved watching the boys growing up together. Rich was blessed to be born into a family where love and understanding of eternal truths are found in such abundance. Each member of the Dellenbach family has been a wonderful example to those of us who know you. David and Amy are such exceptional parents and we wish our love and prayers to be with you and your family.

Though I did not know Rich I knew his father, uncle, and grandparents, so I'm sure that like them he is an outstanding person. What a blessing to have had him in your lives, and what sweet peace that comes from the spirit that you may see him again. May you be comforted at this time of loss and beyond.

Some medical matters remain mysterious. I'm so sorry Rich had to be involved in the mystery. I didn't know him at his best, but I know he did the best he could with what he had. He just seemed like the all-around nice guy. I so much admired your parental devotion to him and your extraordinary efforts to find the right diagnosis, or treatment, or understanding to make his life as meaningful and enjoyable as it could be. I'm sure he is now where he can appreciate the love behind your efforts. May you be blessed for them. And may he be blessed with the full functioning that escaped him here.

David and Amy:

I pray God our Father continues to immerse you and your family with the Comforter and with the peace that surpasses human understanding, particularly given your knowledge of God's plan of happiness. We are so sorry for your loss and years of trial, but also celebrate with you the joys Rich's life showered. No one should ever have to bury a child, I can hardly imagine it. Yet, I know your circumstances and understanding and testimonies are extraordinary. You exemplify courage. We pray for you. We love you. "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." Dave,

My sincere condolences to you and your family. It looks like you made the most of the years you had with your son, raised him right and got in plenty of hunting and fishing together. I wish you peace and comfort.
