Just received a NMSU Alumni Magazine and read of her passing. She was not just my professor at NMSU but also my friend. She touched my heart and soul with her passion for, and wisdom of, life. I'm sure she has captivated many great spirits with her mesmerizing storytelling abilities. NMSU '88

Juanita will be with us for ever. I am so glad we spent time with her last May and visited places that were so special to her, like her childhood home in Slater (see photo gallery). Her laugh, her dolls, her food, her sense of humor, we were blessed with her friendship and love for life. Mary, Keegan and Steve: I am thinking on all of you and the rest of the family that I did not have the chance to meet.
First time I met Juanita we talked without words, I did not speak any English at that time. Later on, when my English improved, her and I laughed a lot about being able to talk without words. Only with Juanita!

Juanita had a big heart for all children...and worked on their behalf in so many ways. A powerful woman who walked her talk, and was a light and inspiration for all of us.

I miss her already. I am so pleased to have rode in the canoe with her on her last pilgrimage where we shared the wonderful spirituality of Enmegahbowh and his mentors. I will look for her at the great reunion. Condolences to all who mourn with hope that you will see the many blessings from those who care.

Mary, Steve and Keegan, thank you for being there for Juanita for so many years. She loved all of her children and grandchildren so much and as her friend I loved her and those dear to her. Juanita and I shared so many great times in so many places and I have such fond memories of my wonderful friend. I will miss her and I mourn her passing even as I celebrate the life she lived and shared with all of us.

She was a gift from God is so many ways to so many people. She was a particular source of wisdom to me during the time we shared at St. Mark's in Minneapolis. She was also very special in the life of our daughter Eve. The gift of her dolls are now being passed on to Eve's daughter Maeve with wonderful stories of Juanita and her tea parties with the dolls. May she rest well at her heavenly tea party.

Juanita was one of the closest and most cherished friends I have known and loved. She took the gospel seriously in feeding and caring for the poor. Mary, Steve, Keegan....you are family. I love you as I did your mother/grandmother. Blessings.
