I'm so sorry to hear about MJ's death. We worked together at NPR and I knew her for many years - wonderful creative soul. I did not know she also had Des Moines roots. My thoughts are with her entire family. - Vickie Nauman

MJ had a profound impact on my life and career. She was truly a visionary, and led more "life" in her short number of years on earth than many people do in twice as many. My thoughts go out to her family.

Professor Bear was one of the finest-- not just as an educator, but also as a mentor and journalist. She was truly invested in each of us as students, people, and as aspiring reporters, producers, or wherever else the field might take us. She led by example and continues to be the bar I measure myself by as a producer. As soon as I landed my first real TV job in Boston, she was the first person I contacted. And while she was busy and abroad, her response was immediate and her warm and sincere congratulations were palpable. I am truly struck and deeply saddened by her passing.
