Margaret Irene Evans, 84, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2013.
Irene was born on March 5, 1929 in Des Moines to Lester and Mabel (Talbot) Bell. Irene graduated from East High School. She married Kenneth H. Evans in 1951 and had three children. She worked administrative jobs at Bankers Life and Standard Brands prior to her retirement. Irene was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and was actively involved with many church activities. She enjoyed sewing, reading and eating out with friends.
Irene's love of her family was endless. She was the matriarch of the family and the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother that anyone would have wanted. Any time spent with family was cherished.
She is survived by her three children, Kenneth (Jennifer) Evans, Dawn Sawyer and John (Susan) Evans. Her six grandchildren are Michael Evans, Sara Harmon (Bill Watson), James (Erin) Evans, David (Danielle) Evans, Bradley (Kendra) Evans and Cynthia Evans. She had four great grandchildren, Makayla, Madison, Katherine and James.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents and her siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2013 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 2600 Capitol Avenue, Des Moines with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 3 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Simpson United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
