Dr. Misch was my dentist from the time that I was 3 years old until the time that he retired. He always made me laugh, even when I had to have a filling. Dr. Misch saw me through my teenage, college and law school years, adulthood and the birth of my twins and the night-time teeth clenching that went along with all those phases of life. He continued to see me for my dental visits long after he stopped seeing general dentistry patients, even though I never needed any major dental work. I even continued to see Dr. Misch during the years that I was living in Boston; I scheduled all of my dental appointments to coincide with my visits home. He was consistently warm, kind and interested in my well-being as I grew up until adulthood. He will be missed.

I saw prof Misch in Romania, in 2005, in a lecture about implantology. It seemed like he knew it all. He could speak forever about implants. He conquered the audience with his personality. Great man !

Dr Misch was my mentor in 1994 at the University of Pittsburgh, Oral Implantology Department. He was so good to his residents. Respectful and caring. He taught us everything in implant dentistry, bone physiology and healing, biomechanics, TX planning, surgical techniques, and prosthetics. He made us gather all the literature and we discussed every chapter of his book in depth. He was a phenomenal surgeon and such a gentle soul. He loved his patients and his students and there were many from all around the world. I was honored to be his student and today I owe him everything I know about implantology. I will miss his smile and his passion for the profession, his love for teaching and his generosity to pass on his knowledge to the next generation. May God bless his soul.

I recently learned of Dr. Misch's passing, It saddens me deeply. My deepest condolences to his entire family, friends and colleagues.
For decades I was pleagued with periodontal dease, which caused severe bone loss. My dentist recommended Dr. Misch, because he had developed implants for people in my predicament.
I remember walking into his office and immediately thinking 'A Keuig machine and pictures of the Pope! Where am I exactly?'
Needless to say Dr. Misch, and his entire staff were excellent. They made every visit comfortable and actually enjoyable?
His life's work gave me back my smile (3rd woman from the left in the photo)!! And for that I am truly grateful and honored to have known him.

Dr Carl Misch, has been hailed and adulated the world over. By the biggest, brightest, dignitaries and dental elite the world over.
I am none of those.
I am just a dentist, from New Orleans, that through an act of god "Katrina", became reacquainted with a friend and colleague that made me aware of Dr. Misch and his institute.
I was a graduate of LSU school of dentistry that had been a leader in implant research in the early days of this discipline. What happened to me after going through his institute was transformational.
It reinvigorated my dental life. He made me feel like I was back in college again. He made it fun to learn again. As I listened to him lecture, I took every note possible, even though there were books and handouts, I just felt the need to write it down. I was writing down his words. Anyone can teach history if they know it well enough. But how often are you taught history, from the one that made that history WOW.
The crazy thing was that I didn't even know it at the time. I was just mesmerized with his gift of oratory and science. He became that favorite teacher in college when you finally realized that learning was not just necessary, but vital to your life as a human being. I was proud to say that I was a Misch graduate. Indeed a Misch disciple.
I feel and know that Dr. Randy Resnick will and should be the one to carry the torch. His last name may not be Misch, but Misch is in him. After all there was only one Misch...and his name was Carl.

I just learned of Carl's passing today. Although I, too, am a dentist, my memories of Carl go back to our days on the baseball team at Wayne State. I was a freshman when he was a sophomore and the starting third baseman. He was always supportive and encouraging of my efforts to make the team as an unknown walk-on, which I did as a sophomore. Carl was a great athlete, and always had a smile on his face. But he was serious, too. While the rest of us were cutting up in the back of the team bus, Carl was always up front studying. He was a fun guy and a good friend. RIP.

Thank you, Carl, for giving me the opportunity to teach alongside you on Wednesday afternoons in the graduate periodontics clinic for several years and to take your surgical training course. You were the best teacher and clinician I have known. It was a great privilege to get to know you as a colleague and friend and learn the principles of implant dentistry from the guy who wrote the book. We have missed your presence here at the University of Michigan for the past several years and now dentistry has lost one of its greats. Thank you for giving so much to our profession. I pray for God to comfort your family as they celebrate your life and mourn your passing.

My earliest memory of Carl is him assisting me in the early '90s with my first dental implant -on my mother. I was always the youngest on an implant program (those days are gone) and I had the good fortune to be able to follow him throughout his time in Europe with the institute there from London to Rome, Monte Carlo and finally Madrid. He had the tremendous support of Francine and I hoped ever since that he would be able to return to a European venue. Alas the rest of the world held greater sway. His friends and colleagues will be aware of his immence energy and limitless enthusiasm for life and his profession. His sense of humour and quick wit never dulled by late nights or long haul travel, always having time for discussion and treatment planning. I can't remeber a time when I didn't have a model or radiograph to discuss with him. We are all feeling a very great loss that simply cannot be adequately described in words and sincere condolences to his family. So many fondest memories R.I.P. Carl

I will always remember the good times we had playing baseball at Wayne State. You were a great friend and teammate. Playing next to you in the infield was always a gas and I will never forget all the times I got you to laugh at my pranks with our teammates. Your laugh I will never forget.
I will always remember going to have some dental work done when you worked out of Dearborn. I also remember the great success you had in Pittsbugh and with the implant industry.
I will miss you #10.

Very saddened to learn of Carl's death. He was one of the most significant figures in my dental practice career. In the late 1980s, after nibbling at a few implant dentistry courses around the country, it was my good fortune to learn of the Misch Institute. I went through that program at Carl's office in Dearborn in the early 1990s. What a wonderful, challenging, and stimulating experience that was! It gave me a whole new world of practice to enjoy until I retired in 2013. I know that Carl trained many during his hard charging career, but he always remembered me when I would occasionally see him at professional meetings over the years. His passing feels to me like I've lost a dear friend. My sincere condolences to all of the Misch family.

I began my training with Dr, Misch after having been in practice for 24 years. His insights gave me a completely new way of understanding what I was looking at and the possibilities available. His courses were energizing. Twenty years later his knowledge still applies.

I am simply too late. All I have heard is how incredible this man had been and how much he's given to our field. My hope has always been to find the time to hear him speak. Up to now I've only been able to read his papers. It is truly my loss and the loss of a dental generation that a man such as this is laid to rest so early. God bless his family for the support he's had over the years to teach, as it isn't easy. May you find peace in this difficult time. May he rest in peace. He has changed the world. Not many have.

Carl's passion for excellence and challenging conventional thinking recharged my batteries at a critical time in my marketing career. Working along side him at Biohorizons in the late 90's was truly one of my most rewarding and fun work experiences. I'm glad he chose dentistry over playing third base for the Detroit Tigers as so many of us would have missed out on his leadership, mentorship and friendship. I'm saddened by his passing but take solace in knowing that Carl's spirt and passion remains in so many of us that had the pleasure of knowing the man. My deepest sympathies to Carl's family and friends. God Bless you and rest in peace my friend.

I am deeply shocked and saddened by this news. Dr. Misch was an extraordinary educator and I went to many of his lectures. He gave me my fellowship with the ICOI and I had many great conversations with him at various dental conventions. His lectures and books are amazing and have helped guide me through my implant prosthetic treatments over the years. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be greatly missed .
