Roy was born in Durham, N.C., on Jan. 13, 1945. He attended the University of North Carolina and was a lifelong Tarheel fan. He enlisted in the Army and was selected to attend officer candidate school. He served as a captain in the Vietnam War, showing great heroism as a helicopter pilot and receiving many distinguished awards. He retired after 34 years with GTE/Verizon and was employed at Metroplex Sand and Gravel at the time of his death.
He was a lifelong servant of the Lord, fulfilling many callings over the years as a Bible teacher, youth group mentor and faithful prayer warrior. He had a quick wit and a servant heart, and he knew that there is great strength in gentleness. He loved football, model airplanes, the History Channel, fishing, and loving on his dogs. But most important to him, besides a tremendous faith, were his family and friends whose safety and well-being were on his mind and in his prayers always.
Roy was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marion and Juanita Tyndall.
Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, Mindy, of 29 years, Roy is survived by his children, Mark, Mike and wife, Shelly, Christine Pinson and husband, Matt, Emily and Brad; grandsons, Zachary and Jacob Tyndall, Jackson and Logan Tyndall, Jack Franklin Pinson and Samuel Pinson; sister, Anita; brother, Robert and wife, Patti; and a loving extended family. Roy left a beautiful legacy and he is so very loved and missed.

What a sweet blessing you and your family were to our family in our time of need, Roy. Getting through those tough months were much easier due to your generosity, love and support. My children have precious memories of those days instead of fearful memories. Thank you for taking the time to talk to them, make them laugh and most of all help them to see how important each of them are. We love you Roy! Cami, Matthew, Katie, Luke and Kristen
