James Green Obituary

James Robert Green III departed this life Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, three weeks shy of his 30th birthday, the victim of a tragic shooting incident. Graveside service: Will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Green/Musselman Family Cemetery located on Hubbard Creek Lake in Stephens County. Pallbearers: Peter O'Neill Alcorn, Tyler Wilson Brous, William Alvin Landreth, Michael Jamison Malone, William Durrah Ratliff IV, William Overton Rodgers, Joshua Stroud, Stephen Lyle Tatum Jr., Thomas Haynes Whitney, Bradfield Denman Wright. Memorials: The family requests that gifts in James' memory be made to Cook Children's Medical Center, 801 7th Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76104; or to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, 1901 N. Akard St., Dallas, Texas 75201. James was born Jan. 21, 1982, in Fort Worth. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, and a graduate of Fort Worth Country Day School. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Southern Methodist University in 2006. At SMU, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and held various leadership positions in his fraternity. He was a member of the Steeplechase Club in Fort Worth and served as its president in 2010. He was also a recent inductee into the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate. James was employed by Rymac Investments at the time of his death. James was from a ranching family, and spent every available moment at his family ranch near Albany, Texas. Growing up, he spent many weekends there helping his grandfather work the land and cattle. He became an accomplished athlete and sportsman, mastering first the gun, and then the bow, at an early age. He took many Pope and Young whitetails, and many South African plains game trophies, with his bow. He was also an avid fly fisherman. In addition to pursuing the wily carp on home waters, he fished many of the best trout rivers in the Rockies. He penned the verse below when he was 12 after losing a monster rainbow in the Black Canyon section of the Gunnison River. He was a devotee of Josh Stroud's fitness club, and was proud of being in Josh's "300 Club." He was training to run the Cowtown 10K at the time of his death. James had a heart as big as the great outdoors, and was a joy to be around. James revered his family and friends, and they him. He never met a stranger. His wit and humor were contagious. He was the life of every party, and was a natural toastmaster and raconteur. He was also a caring soul who would give anyone the shirt off his back. His loss is devastating to his loved ones. The Rainbow Trout It is the dream of every man: the beautifully painted Rainbow. for one who has set the hook knows that his dream is accomplished. However, this dream is far from completion as the enraged trout darts to and fro; the graphite fly rod bends itself into a full arc putting the flyfisherman's skills to the test. But as time wears on the trout grows weary and tired; it struggles until it can do so no more, then gives itself to the waiting hands of the fisherman. The fisherman is overwhelmed with joy for he has had the chance to dance with this graceful fish. So in return the fisherman gives the fish back to the river so that maybe another day the trout can dance again. By: James Green, III Survivors: James leaves behind his parents, James Robert Jr. and Susan Bond Green; his sister, Sarena Green Wright, recently married to Brad Wright; and his grandmother, Mrs. James Robert Green. James was predeceased by his beloved grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Honyman Bond and James Robert "Bob" Green. James is also mourned by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Words escape us as we reflect upon our love for the life of James. He truly was the life of every event and yet a true gentleman in every aspect of the word. Heaven is a much happier space with his welcoming into the angels that have gone before. We thank God for his blessings here on Earth for the years that James gave us. With love, Charlotte and Paul
