Patsy Small Obituary

Patsy Beazley Small, 85, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church. A private graveside service will take place in Greenwood Memorial Park for the family. Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church or a charity of choice. Patsy Beazley Small was born April 27, 1925, to Luther Branham and Willie V. Beazley in San Angelo. She was the youngest of three sisters. Anna Claire, Gibbs and Patsy had a wonderful childhood growing up in West Texas. She graduated from San Angelo High School and went on to attend the University at Texas at Austin. There she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and met many who would become lifelong friends in Fort Worth. She graduated with a degree in English and started a career in Austin that would be cut short when she met the love of her life, Terrell Small. They married and soon moved to Fort Worth where they raised a family of three boys. She had been a devout member of All Saints Episcopal Church since 1951 and a longstanding member of the church's Flower Guild. She also served on the Church Vestry and on the All Saints Episcopal School Board. Patsy was a sculptor and a lifelong supporter of the arts in Fort Worth. For over a decade, she was the director of the docent programs for the Kimbell, Amon Carter and Fort Worth art museums. She was a past president of the Fort Worth Garden Club, a member of the Fort Worth Junior League, the Jewel Charity Ball, River Crest Country Club and the Tarrant County Historical Society, among others. The family would like to thank the staff at the James L. West Center for their kindness and compassion in caring for Patsy. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by one sister, Gibbs Crook of Corpus Christi, and her beloved husband, Terrell. Survivors: Her loving sister, Anna Claire Henderson of Houston; loving sons, Terrell Jackson Small III and wife, Elaine, John Branham Small and Stephen Richard Small; and grandsons, Stephen Richard Small Jr. and Stuart Jackson Small.

Steve,

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. I have fond memories of your mom during our youthful years in the neighborhood. I admired her enthusiastic passion for the game of golf on Friday mornings at Rivercrest.

Your friend,
Pat Pankey

Although Patsy was diminutive in size, she was a huge dynamo in action as director of docent programs for the three art museum in Fort Worth. While the job description had its built-in frustrations, Patsy never lost her cool, her wonderful sense of humor, or her professionalism with docents, professional staff or the public. She knew just when and how to use that valuable "velvet glove" touch. As a curatorial staff member at the Kimbell, I delighted in Patsy and all she accomplished for the museums' public images and for her other many civic involvements. I send my deepest condolences to her entire family. Ellen Oppenheim Richards, Abilene, TX
