Jim Peden, 89, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Private at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: May be made to Vitas Charitable Fund, 2501 Parkview Drive, Suite 600, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. James Henry Peden was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Marshall to his parents, Joseph Sire and Lilly Mae Peden. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy Aug. 3, 1945, and served in the Philippines until May 1946. During his Navy stint he began boxing and went on to win his Golden Gloves after leaving the Navy. In 1948, Jimmy met Norma Holton and he pursued a college career at Texas Tech University and graduated in 1955. On March 30, 1950, he and Norma married and as the years passed they had three kids, Joe, Debbie and Mike. He was a member of Elks Lodge for many years. He very much enjoyed dancing, a rum and coke and driving to visit family and friends. Out of everything he experienced, he said his happiest and proudest memories have been watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Joe Peden in 1997; and wife, Norma Peden, in 2005. Survivors: Daughter, Debbie Manley and husband, Tim, of Burleson; son, Mike Peden and wife, Donna, of Keller; grandchildren, Clint Manley and wife, Ashley, and their three children, Jaime Manley, Josiah Peden and wife, Shelby, Matthew Peden and Patrick Peden; former daughter-in-law, Michelle Biggs and her children, Andrew Anselmo and Lauren Schwalb; and a host of other friends and relatives.
