James Devoll Obituary

DEVOLL James F. "Jay" Devoll, of Westerville, age 83, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Preceded in death by daughter Peggy Ann Amrine. Survived by loving wife of 59 years, Nadine "Deanie"; and daughters, Cathy Pevey (Rick) of Montgomery Village, Md. and Linda Fox of Hamilton, Ohio; granddaughter, Lee Ann Amrine; and grandson, Joshua David (J.D.) Amrine. Jay was a graduate of Cambridge High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War ll and is a life member of the American Legion. He attended Muskingum College before entering the Ohio State Patrol where he served for 31 years and retired as Commander of the Investigation section with the rank of Captain. While in the Patrol he completed a number of special training courses including the F.B.I. National Academy, Keeler Polygraph School, and Northwestern University's Traffic Supervisors short course. He was one of the founders and first Treasurer of the Highway Patrol Dist. #9 Credit Union. When it became the statewide Hwy. Patrol Credit Union he was the 1st President. He was a life member and Past President of the Ohio Chapter of the F.B.I. National Academy Associates and a life member of the Ohio Polygraph Association. After retiring from the Patrol he worked as chief investigator and Administrator of Racing for the Ohio State Racing commission for 18 years. Jay was a life member of Cambridge Masonic lodge #632 and an active member of the Aladdin Shrine where he served on the Board of Trustees and was Director Emeritus of the Provost Unit. He was also an Aladdin Temple Ambassador and Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #8. Friends may call 3-6 p.m. Friday at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery. Friends may contribute in his memory to either the charity of your choice or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3850 Stelzer Rd., Columbus, OH 43219.

Dear Deanie,
My heart goes out to you and your family.I will miss my e-mail buddy.It was wonderful to spend time with you two in Switzerland.It was Gordie's last vacation.He always thought the world of Jay.
Peace to you in your time of healing, knowing that Jay is no longer suffering and now has the angels to take care of him for the present.
