Ronald Markle Obituary

Markle, Ronald
1935 - 2018
Ronald Elwyn Markle, age 83, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Preceded in death by wife Elda Snodgrass Markle and step-daughter Claudia Maroscher. Survived by wife, Elisabeth Maria Jaeger Markle; children, Lynn Markle, David (Mary) Markle, Richard (Stephanie) Markle, Laurie (Gary) McMasters, Elisa (Gregory) McClure, Petra (Chuck) Schuchardt, Martin (Jill) Jaeger, Tina (Mike) Jaeger; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ron Markle was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1935, son of Alta Knox Markle and William Elwyn Markle. He graduated from Collinwood High School in 1953 and graduated with honors from Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music with a B.M.E. in Music in 1966. He worked as a brick mason, foreman and estimator to support his family of seven, but his first love was always music. During high school, he performed in his first musical and began his lifelong love of opera. As a young man, he performed in dozens of musicals. He performed many summers in Musicarnival in Cleveland and sang for years as a professional soloist and member of the Church of the Covenant chorale. He was particularly proud of his experience working with Robert Shaw as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and Summer Pops Chorale. He taught vocal music in high schools in Oberlin, Canton and Minerva, Ohio for 11 years, and directed students in many concerts and numerous musicals. From 1973 to 1978, he had the distinction of serving as an adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association. His last 40 years, living in Columbus, Ohio, he served as the Senior Choir director and Bell Choir director for the Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, retiring after 30 years. He was proud of his association with and his role as Musical Director of The Columbus Maennerchor and Damenchor for almost 35 years. While with the Maennerchor and Damenchor, he directed performances throughout Ohio, the Midwestern U.S. as well as in Germany. He led the Damenchor on a European concert tour to Austria, Hungary and Germany, and prepared music for and served as a fest director for the 56th National Saengerfest in Columbus. More than anything, he would want to be remembered as a man of music. Friends received Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 2-3pm at the MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI Funeral Home, 1068 S. High St., where service will follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio. To view and sign the on-line register, visit
