Carl Musgrave Obituary

Musgrave Carl S. Musgrave, age 89, of Canal Winchester, OH, died on Monday, June 24, 2013 with family by his side. He was born on July 10, 1923 to the late Jesse and Verda Musgrave in Steubenville, OH. Carl was a graduate of Jefferson Union High School in 1943. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII, retiring after 37 years as a Chief Petty Officer. Carl worked at the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a Communications Officer for 21 years. Carl was a member of Shalom United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and 4-H at the county fairs. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife whom he married in April 1943, Helen L. Musgrave, granddaughter Kim Runkle Goldsmith, and special friend "Codee" his dog. Survivors include his daughters, Darlene "Dee" (Don) Smith of Niles, OH and Carole (Sam) Runkle of Groveport, OH; grandchildren, Tom Runkle, Carla Allender, Lisa (Jeff) Sindledecker, Chris (Heather) Runkle; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kari, Taylor, Bryan, Jordan, Kylie, Alex, Bradley, Justin, Jennifer, Grace and Reese; great-great grandchildren, Aydin, Cameron, Evan and Shane; and sister, Martha Beers. Friends may visit on Thursday, June 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, OH 43110. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens. Online condolences can be found at www.spencefuneralhome.com.

My deepest condolences to the WHOLE family. It's hard to believe that after only one year of attending school with oldest daughter, Dee, that (even though we don't see each other frequently) we have remained good friends for 55 years and have never been far from each other in heart & mind. Memories of Carl & Helen include boating adventures with my parents and sisters & Carl working for the State Patrol "down the road" from us on 422, and my thinking he could get me out of any trouble I may get into. Ha! That never happened though.
