Thomas Hammer Obituary

Hammer Thomas Hammer, age 72, died at his home on January 27, 2017 surrounded by his family following a long illness. He was born September 16, 1944 in Fultonham, OH. He was the son of Albert and Margaret (Snider) Hammer. He was preceded in death by both his parents and brother Jim. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (Turner); children, Christine (Randy) Simmering, Karen (Jim Hohman) Hammer and Mike (Laura Keneipp) Hammer; grandchildren, Jason Potts, Jarrod Potts, Ashley Harris, Nathan Simmering, Olivia Hammer and Jacob Hammer; great-grandchildren, Marlie Potts, Addison Potts, Peyton Harris, Colton Harris, Alaina Potts and Callie Potts. He is also survived by sisters, Ruth Pritchard, Kitty Blosser and Rosemary Fetty all of Newark, OH. Thomas was a Trooper in the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 35 years. He graduated from 83rd Patrol Class in 1969. He spent 14 years in Jackson, OH where he was shot in the line-of-duty in 1979. He had many surgeries and complications after that incident. In 1984 he was transferred to the Communication Center in Columbus. Later he was transferred to the Office of Investigative Services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
