In the journey of nursing there are some people who touch your heart and stay with you forever. Bill is definately one of those people. What a wonderful, smart and very caring person. I feel honored to have known Bill and having had the privilage of being his nurse. My prayers are with his children, whom I've also become fond of.

Bill and I were children together, first cousins and good friends. I saw him every time we went to Ohio for the last several years. He was a repository of family history and an all-round really good guy.

Bill and I were close as children; our fathers were brothers, though some 18 years apart in age. Bill, who was born after his parents had been married for more than 25 years, was the biggest surprise the family ever had. I remember his mother saying her only regret was that he had not been twins. He was so sheltered as a child and when his family visited our country home, he really went wild. I remember him running around with a towel pinned around his neck for a cape, trying to fly like superman over a ditch and landing in the middle! I suppose we were 8 or 9 then.

The last time I saw him (last year) he told me a story about his father's call to service in WWI (I had asked him why his dad was not in that war) and I am still laughing about that story. Any family member who wants to hear it can e-mail me ([email protected]).

I loved Bill and will always miss him.

Bill named us "shirt-tail" cousins; our mothers were step-sisters. BIll was called a "surprise" baby. We were good friends and Masonic brothers. We had many interesting and enjoyable conversations; Bill had a "way with words."

Bill Botkin was my second cousin on my Grandmother Ruth M. Botkin Cutright's side, and my Mother Fran's first cousin. He loved the Cutright side of our family, it seems, as much as the Botkin side. As an only child, I think he found joy in the number of cousins he had from Grandma Ruth!

I warmly remember Bill always interested in family members especially Aunt Betty and Uncle Warren and my Mom, Frances Cutright Drummond, and always faithful in attending the Cutright side of the family's funerals.

Bill and I used to chat several times a year except over the past 1-2 years where both of us had health difficulties. As ill as he was, his last call to me a few months ago was to warn me of traffic difficulties on Route 23 North since he knew I traveled that way to work from Chillicothe each day.........

As the whole Botkin side was/is, Bill was extremely intelligent and knew lots of things about most everything. Never at a loss for words, Bill seemed to delight in telling old Botkin family information and for those of us who were listening, we were definitely educated.

Bill arranged the last Botkin family reunion in his beloved Chillicothe, OH in the Yoctangee Park about 2001 or 2002. I saw Botkin kin I hadn't seen for years including our dear Aunt Florence who passed a few years later. Kenny Botkin, a first cousin, and Joshua Bate, a 2nd cousin on the Cutright side, delighted us with singing and guitar playing and it was such an enjoyable afternoon! Though I've never seen it, a few photos were taken as a group at that memorable day....

A prelude to the picnic that sunny July morning, was attending the Trinity United Methodist Church on Main Street which I learned, thanks to Bill. was rich with Botkin history. Bill had arranged prior to the ending of the services, to address the congregation from the pulpit and spoke lovingly of his parents' attendance at Trinity, etc. It was moving and I was so happy I was able to witness that part of the pre-Botkin family reunion.

Bill seemed to pass along to his children his fondness of the Cutright side of the family, and I am pleased to be in occasional contact with most of his children, especially Tommy, and young Bill when he still lived in Columbus.

I'll miss you, Bill, and all of your wonderful stories about the Botkin clan; his stories enhanced our gratefulness for being part of the Botkin family.

Sweet and eternal rest with your beloved Peggy, Bill.

Love always,

Debbie Ruth Mason Turner
Chillicothe, OH
