MAHONEY John K. Mahoney, 61, of Columbus, died April 5, 2011 in Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born September 9, 1949 in Springfield, OH to Jack and Mary Ann (Oster) Mahoney. John was a 1967 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a graduate of Spalding University, Louisville, KY. John was a Springfield City Commissioner from 1973 to 1976, and was State Senator from Ohio's 10th District from 1977 to 1981. He was chief of staff for Democrats in the Ohio Senate from 1981 to 1985. Since 1986, he was Deputy Director of the Ohio Municipal League. He was also a former chairman of the Clark County Democratic Party. Survivors include his daughter, Maggie of Milford, OH; two sisters, Ann Schaaf, Columbus, OH and Eileen (William) Burba, Springfield; five brothers, Dennis (Kathy), Columbus, Vincent, Springfield, Stephen (Kelly), Vandalia, OH, Martin (Maribeth) and Matthew (Janet) of Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Philip. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME, Springfield, OH from 4-7 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
