Andrew Ward Obituary
1949 - 2018
Following an 8 year battle with cancer, Andy Ward, age 68, passed peacefully on October 9, 2018. Andy was devoted to his family and was a loving husband, remarkable father, and adoring grandfather 'Papa'. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Alan and Beryl, and his sister Lindsay. Andy is survived by his wonderful wife, Jennifer "Jen"; cherished children, Samantha (Ed), Trevor (Adrienne) and their daughter, Harlow; step-daughter, Samantha; step-son, Paul (Jeannine) and their daughter, Breaelle; brother, Barry (Sally) and niece, Nic (Graham). Andy had undergraduate degrees in Civil Engineering from Imperial College London, England and graduate degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Kentucky. He served for 32 years as a member of the faculty of the Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at OSU. He was an avid educator who was passionate about the teaching, research and service missions of OSU. Andy touched the lives of numerous people including hundreds of undergraduate students, as the advisor of 30 graduate students, and as the organizer and instructor for short courses for practitioners. He co-authored many scientific manuscripts and notably the textbook Environmental Hydrology that is being used in courses throughout the world. His most notable research accomplishment was providing leadership to the development of the two-stage ditch concept. Andy was a recreational jogger and ran 23 marathons and ultra-marathons. He loved watching sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. Thanks for the numerous people who helped Andy through his journey that was filled with many memorial moments. Visitation will be held 3-6 pm Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street, Worthington, Ohio, where a Celebration of Life will follow at 6 PM. A private burial will be held at Union Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Kobacker House for their care and compassion. This is late, but I only just learnt of Andy's passing late last year. His dedication and enthusiasm for conservation will be missed, as well as his sharp wit, which made everyone who worked with him a better conservationist.
