Charles J. Furedy

FUREDY Charles J. Furedy, 89, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 5, 1922, Charlie was one of eight children born to Anna and Michael Furedy. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and again in the Korean War. He worked in various management roles for the St. Regis Paper Company in Newark, Ohio. He was an active member of the community serving as a Newark city councilman and as a founding member and president of the Newark Little League baseball program. He retired in 1986, in Sebring, Florida, where he and his wife Ruth became part of a loving community of friends. During his retirement he spent time gardening, golfing, helping to feed the needy and entertaining his many friends. In 2008, Charlie and Ruth moved to Columbus to reside at Kensington Place where they met a supportive community of friends and staff. Charlie is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Ruth (Baxter) Furedy; their two children, Judy (Doug) Montanaro and Chuck (Donna Gallaher) Furedy; their five grandchildren, Matthew (Amy White) Furedy, Katie Montanaro, Megan (Robbie) Liedke, Maggie Montanaro and Michael Furedy; along with his sister, Frances Furedy; brothers, Albert Furedy and Elmer Furedy; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Charlie will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Rd. N. in Pickerington, Ohio on April 20 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution be made to Odyssey Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
