Alice Appel Obituary
Gahanna - Alice Kay Appel (Brandt), a faithful servant of God, born in Versailles, Ohio on February 25th, 1948 to Emil William Brandt and Edith Caroline Brandt, entered eternal life on December 4th, 2025 after a short battle with cancer.
Among many other roles she played in life, she was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and a steadfast friend.
She attended Capital University and graduated in 1970 with a bachelors in Education. During her time at Capital, Alice was a member of the Chapel Choir. She continued her education at The Ohio State University to complete her Master's of Education in 1975.
She was a dedicated educator for over 35 years. Alice's teaching career began in 1970 at Kae Avenue Elementary School in Whitehall where she developed friendships that have lasted 55 years. In 1978 Alice continued teaching in Gahanna Jefferson Schools at Gahanna Middle School West. There she served as an inclusion teacher, trusted colleague and lifelong friend for 26 years until her retirement in 2006. She continued to celebrate the relationships she built during her career and cherished her many friends.
She was a 54 year member of Faith Lutheran church in Whitehall Ohio. She served as a Sunday school teacher, secretary of the Church Leadership Team, sang in the church choir most recently on November 9th, played in the bell choir, taught summer Vacation Bible School and organized many Christmas play pageants.
Alice enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. She loved to spend time enjoying new places with family and friends.
Alice was an avid Buckeye fan for three decades, enjoying tailgating and cheering on the team with friends and family from the stands.
Alice is preceded in death by parents Emil and Edith Brandt, sister Ruth Ann Tetmeyer.
Survived by husband David Leon Appel, by son Jeremy Davis Appel and daughter-in-law Sandra Appel, daughter Julie Allison Appel (Tim), grand-daughter Olivia Alice Appel, brother Allen Brandt, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Faith Lutheran Church Whitehall or Faith Mission.
