Virginia Long Obituary

Long Virginia A. Long, age 93, formerly of Noble County, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, February 9, 2013 at Traditions at Mill Run in Columbus, Ohio. She was born January 1, 1920, in Washington County, Ohio, the daughter of Earl and Erma Feiock Wooster. Virginia grew up in Warner, Ohio, and graduated from Lower Salem High School, class of 1938. After graduation, she attended business school in Columbus, Ohio, where she met her future husband, Lewis W. Long, of Dexter City, Ohio. They were married in January, 1940 and enjoyed over 66 years together. When Lewis joined the Marine Corps in 1944, for service in World War II, Virginia returned with her two children to Noble County, where she lived for the next 66 years, first in Dexter City, and later in South Acres, Caldwell, Ohio. In 1950, Virginia joined the work force as a secretary with the Union Carbide Company, first in Dexter City, and later in Marietta, Ohio. She enjoyed this work for many years, eventually retiring at age 65. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #60 in Macksburg, Ohio, serving in virtually all capacities of that Chapter. She and her husband, Lewis, were avid square dancers, members of the Curly Q's, and traveled southeastern Ohio to attend dances for many years. For more than 40 years, she and Lewis vacationed twice annually at the Outer Banks, North Carolina, routinely accompanied by their beloved pet. She was a great animal lover. After moving to South Acres in 1968, Virginia's favorite pastime was visiting her neighbors and walking the neighborhood. She loved the outdoors, and considered her neighbors to be dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter Susan Roach. Surviving are her son, Mike (Pam) Long of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Matthew (Laura) Long of Arlington, Virginia; great-grand-children, Meghan, Amanda and Joshua Long; grandson, Nathan (Tiffany) Long of Cincinnati, Ohio; great-grandsons, Ethan, Owen and Gavin Long; grandson, Adam (Amy) Long of Chicago, Illinois; great-grandson, Grayson Long; granddaughter, Jennifer (Lee) Offenberger of Marietta, Ohio; great-grand-children, Lyndsay and Ryan Offenberger; extended family, Phil (Linda) Roach of North Carolina, and their children, Michael (Susan) Roach, and their children, Jack and Lily Roach; and daughter, Alison (Nate) Banchiere and their children, Sophia and Berkley Banchiere.
