Nicolas Alvarez Obituary

Alvarez Nicolas Juan Alvarez, 57, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Doctors Hospital. Nick was born in Havana, Cuba and was raised in the Miami/West Palm Beach area of Florida until 1976. He later moved to Columbus, Ohio where he began working with his family at Columbus Pest Control. Nick married Melanea M. Alvarez in 1980 and the couple had a daughter, Amanda Nicole. Nick was an amazing father, spending every possible moment supporting his daughter's interests in sports, travel and education. Family and friends were always a priority; he would go to great lengths to ensure he did everything possible to recognize the athletic and academic achievements, successes and milestones of individuals in his life. Nick was a loving spirit. Nick is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Pedro N. Alvarez and Dr. Estrella Alonso Alvarez. He is survived by his spouse, Melanea M. Alvarez; and daughter, Amanda Alvarez (Ryan Snider); brothers, Pedro Alvarez (Mirta) and Dr. Felix Alvarez (Caridad); father-in-law, Melvin G. Mettler; nieces and nephews, Felix G. Alvarez (Marilyn), Alejandro Alvarez (Andrea), Cristina Leacock (Ryan), Angelic Alvarez, Evelyn Argenal (Jose), Peter Alvarez (Amy), Lannie Alvarez, Ashley Alvarez; aunts and uncles, and many many more family and friends. Calling hours are Friday, October 16, 2015 from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 204 South 5th Street. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make charitable contributions to the American Heart Association- Columbus Chapter or Multiple Sclerosis Society - Central Ohio Chapter in Memory of Nicolas Juan Alvarez, he supported the efforts of both organizations. I worked with Nick when I was with 5/3 Bank. Such a happy man...so in love with his wife and proud of his daughter. A good man has left us. So sorry for your loss.

I interacted with Nick regularly through my work. He was a very hard-working, considerate, and kind man. My coworkers and I were very sad to hear of his passing. Our thoughts are with his family.

i did not know nick that well but he had a smile and a joke i do remember his laugh but i do remember him years ago we played water volleyball it was fun he made me laugh. to his family i experienced a loss of my dad so i know exactly how you feel but remember they are in our hearts. may Godbless

What a honor it was for me to meet and talk with Nick. Just last week we laughed, joked and shared our life stories at my job at Anthony Thomas. What a nice person he was and I am honored to have known him. God bless and comfort his family during this difficult time.

My family and I have known Nick probably over 35 years. From water volleyball at the condos, cards with the cousins, marrying my beautiful cousin and the birth of his angelic daughter Amanda. The wonderful times I had with the whole Alvarez / Mettler family will stay deep in our memories and my heart. I still hear your special laugh and remember the way you loved to dance. Rest well sweet Nicky and know your extended family loves you and will keep you close to their hearts forever

I had the privilege of working with Nick for several years as the coordinator of extermination services at FCCS and he was so friendly and personable. We loved Nick! Enthusiastic, big smile, genuine and professional, I remember him being moved to to help a family in need by taking the children toys. Truly an honor to have met you Nick.
