Kevin Lonergan Obituary

Lonergan Kevin M. Lonergan. There are people who touch a life in such a way that they forever change your soul. Kevin M. Lonergan was one of those people. Called to Heaven unexpectedly on October 17, 2015 in Ohio, Kevin joins his mother Elizabeth, his father John, and his brothers John and Jimmy. Kevin is survived by his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Lonergan; brother, Arthur Lonergan and sister-in-law, Judy Lonergan of MA. Beloved husband of Susan of OH. Stepfather to Christine and Chase Snowden of OH. Loving father to Deveney Lonergan- Stenger of FL, Kevin Michael Lonergan and his wife, Kimberly of CA, Dolan Lonergan of CA, and Garrett Lonergan of AZ. Adored grandfather to Lindsey and Katelyn Lonergan. He was a friend to many and a cherished Uncle. Born September 1, 1948 in Everett, Massachusetts, Kevin attended Malden Catholic high school and Stonehill College. If there was any indication to the strength of his character, it came in high school when he was severely injured playing football. The year of recovery in a Stryker frame set into motion his determination to live life to the fullest. At 21 years old, Kevin started what would become an extremely accomplished career in the retail industry. It began with an entry-level job at the Gap in Massachusetts, where he worked his way into becoming a senior leader at Gap, Target, County Seat and Carson Pirie Scott. In 1989, Kevin moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, returning to the Gap. Five years later, the young man who had begun his career in the Gap's stockroom would be asked to help start a new division called Old Navy. As Chief Operating Officer, Kevin helped steer the business to become the fastest growing apparel retail start-up in U.S. history, achieving one billion dollars in annual sales in less than four years. Following Old Navy, Kevin worked in senior leadership roles with American Eagle, DSW and Artisan de Luxe. A selfless leader, Kevin was always willing to take on any challenge and became a valued mentor to many. Kevin's professional advantages provided a platform for him to help those in need. He donated clothes to victims of natural disasters and gave to countless charities. As a board member of the Good Tidings Foundation, his generosity helped fund scholarships for hundreds of college students. He was genuinely happy to help others, but his heart was always fullest at home. Kevin enjoyed spending time with his sons, Kevin, Dolan, and Garrett. The countless Bay Area sporting events they attended and numerous vacations will provide a lifetime of memories. Known as "Grandpa Kitty" to Katelyn and Lindsey, his Granddaughters brought out the soft, silly side that lit up his soul. Kevin enjoyed being with his extended family in Massachusetts and held a special place in his heart for his sister, Betty. In recent years, Kevin remarried. There was nothing he loved more than to spend time with Susan in Ohio; sitting at their fire pit enjoying each other's company. Out of all the places he lived, his favorite spot was at his home in Falmouth, MA. We will bring him back one final time to say goodbye. A wake will be held Friday, October 23 from 6-9 p.m. at CHAPMAN, COLE and GLEASON FUNERAL HOME, 475 Main Street, Falmouth, MA. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24 at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth, MA. Burial is at Saint Anthony's Cemetery, 167 East Falmouth Highway. Reception to follow, at Coonamessett Inn, 311 Gifford Street, Falmouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kevin's name to the Good Tidings Foundation, 1469 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA 94010 or goodtidings.org click on the donate now button.

I remember asking Kevin, in the occasion of his sons wedding to Kim Asking him, how in the heck did you get the Platters to perform at the wedding? He said in a master of fact way, all you got to do is make a call. In my view, he was a real doer bent on making things better. I admired him. TVom

I count myself fortunate to have worked for Kevin at Banana Republic during one of his many successful assignments at Gap Inc. He was our fearless leader - known for his boundless energy, passion for the business, and drive for results. Behind that demanding exterior was a kind and caring guy, with a heart-warming grin and charming wit. He made a lot of friends in his career and was looked up to by so many. My deepest sympathies go out to all his family, and he will remain in our memories and prayers.

Although I only had the brief opportunity to know Kevin Lonergan, I am confident that his legacy will live on through the fortunate people who he inspired, mentored, and loved. He was truly a man that reached for the stars and proved that any goal could be achieved with persistence, innovation, and effort. If Kevin's family in any way represents the person he was, I can say faithfully and without a doubt that he was a great man. My heart goes out to my good friend Garrett and his family throughout this rough time.

Kevin was a wonderful mentor to me, and was responsible for giving me numerous opportunities through Gap and Old Navy. Because of Kevin I learned the skills I needed for every position I've held since Old Navy. He shared his knowledge and wisdom with me, and encouraged me to keep pushing. In short, I think of him as my "retail dad", and fortunately, shared that with him many years ago. I'm grateful to have known and worked with Kevin. My heartfelt condolences to his family and closest friends.

I had the honor and pleasure of knowing Kevin since the mid 1970's at The Gap. We both were members of the Regional Team based out of Dallas in 1976. We spent a significant amount of time together and he was one of the most professional and inspirational leaders that I have ever met. He was an outstanding friend that was always there to help in anyway he could. When we were both relocated back to California he helped me and my family move several times. I can't tell you how instrumental Kevin was throughout my 10 years at The Gap as we took on greater responsibilities. I will truely miss him. I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Susan his children and the entire family.
