Harvey Dean Jantzen

1931 - 2014

Harvey Dean Jantzen, 82, of Bucklin passed away on July 13, 2014 as he had been battling congestive heart failure and a variety of other aliments. Harvey was born at home in Seward County, Kansas on December 24, 1931. He was one of seven children that were born to Dan and Ida (Deckart) Jantzen. Harvey was raised on a farm in Seward County, Kansas and attended Kismet High school.

Harvey started farming in Seward County while he was still in High School. He was a great farmer and had received awards for exceptional progress in agriculture and contribution to the community. He moved to Bucklin in 1974 and had a Ranch and farm south of Bucklin where he retired in 2002.

Harvey served in leadership positions on a number of professional and civic boards including Farm Bureau and Kismet and Bucklin Methodist Church. He always enjoyed singing and being active by sponsoring youth groups in the Methodist Church.

Harvey married Rochelle Jeanine Light April 11th 1954 in Kismet Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include: son Donald (Connie) Jantzen, daughter Jan (Conrad) Meitl and son Boyd (Wendy) Jantzen; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; and three siblings: Verna Headrick, Merlin (Barbara) Jantzen, and Jean Towle (Unruh).

He is preceded in death by three siblings: Ray Jantzen, Vera Shields, and Dan Jantzen, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at United Methodist Church, Bucklin Kansas. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 at Restlawn Cemetery (Memorial Gardens) in Liberal, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Bucklin United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or Hill Top House c/o Minnis Mortuary, PO Box 516, Bucklin KS 67834.
