Schartner, Franklin "Frank" J.

Frank J. Schartner, 80, of Sturgeon Bay, died unexpectedly Friday morning (November 23, 2012) at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.

He was born July 17, 1932 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Adolph and Ella Mae (Walker) Schartner. Frank attended S.S. Peter and Paul School in Institute. On December 29, 1951 he married Dolores Gertrude Wendt at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2001. They dairy farmed in the Town of Egg Harbor for many years, where they raised their seven children. He was known at Bay Shipbuilding for his welding expertise and often would be consulted on certain weld strength applications.

Frank loved following sports, especially watching baseball. He also enjoyed hunting with family and friends.

Surviving are his children, Lynn (Delbert Brandley) Hails of Sturgeon Bay, Nancy (Robert) Moore of Sturgeon Bay, daughter-in-law, Cari Schartner of Green Bay, Joe (Jan) Schartner, Jeff (Laurie) Schartner, Mary (Randal) Leist, Sandy (Richard) Brauer all of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren and their families, Charles and Chrissy Hails (and their children, Aaron, Katelyn) of Lousiana, Joshua (Andrea) Hails of Kansas City, Missouri, Chrystal (Randy) Van Gheem (and their daughter, Cassidy), Todd (Melissa) Moore of Sturgeon Bay, Tia (Paul) DeLeers (and their son, William), Frank Schartner (friend, Lindsey) of Green Bay, Kendall (Jason) Brauer (and their children, Laney, Blake), Jason Schartner (friend Cathy) of Sturgeon Bay, Danielle (Eric) Glesner of Milwaukee, Andrew Schartner of Sturgeon Bay, Calle (Jake) Stultz of Madison, Erin Schartner of Milwaukee, Alec Schartner of Sturgeon Bay, Jamie (Adam) Lasee of Green Bay, Katie Leist, Robert (friend, Wilhelmina) Leist, of Sturgeon Bay; Amber (Matthew) Howington of Oconto, Robyn (friend, Josh) of Sturgeon Bay; four brothers, Adolph (Betty) Schartner, Ralph (Bonnie) Schartner, Darrel (Karen) Schartner, John (Susie) Schartner; aunt, Janice (Don) Petersilka; and many dear nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Adolph and Ella Schartner; Wife, Dolores Schartner; son, Frank Schartner; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Annie) Schartner; Son-in-law, Charles Hails.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (November 28, 2012) at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Rev. Robert Konkol officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Huehns Funeral Home and at the church Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.
