George Slight Obituary

Slight, George

George Slight, age 82, died in Ellison Bay, WI, on August 23, 2014. The cause of death was a massive stroke.

Born January 10, 1932 in Evanston, IL to George and Nancy Slight, he attended Evanston High School and graduated from Amherst College, class of 1953.

George attended Officer Candidate School and served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1970. Following active duty, he received his MBA from Purdue University and worked for Inland Steel his entire career. After retirement, George and his wife traveled between their homes in Wisconsin and Florida.

George Slight was married for 60 years to his beloved wife, Jean. Their children include Janet (Gary), Ken (Paula), and Larry (Mary). Survivors also include his sister Katie, sister in-law and brother-in-law Lois and Art, grandchildren Kimberly (Brian), Allison, Lisa, Clara, Anna, Ben and great-grandchild Brody.

George was so many things to his family -- a loyal husband, a fantastic father and grandfather, and a proud brother; an avid golfer, athlete, sports enthusiast, and Chicago Bears loyalist; our "devil's advocate" and controversial conversation instigator; a lover of dogs, hunting, and all things nature; but most of all our rock, enthusiastic leader, and patriarch. His legacy will live on through generations.

A memorial service for George's extended family will be held in October.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome to Ellison Bay Service Club, PO Box 181, Ellison Bay, WI 54210 or Unity Hospice, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, De Pere, WI 54115.

He was so important to all of us. He worked so hard for all of us to enjoy his labors of love. Tippedoor, grilling feasts, the apples in the Fall, boating, my Libby... I can go on and on. He inspires me to be more like him. Love you and miss you, Grandad!
