Opal (Mitchell) Griffith a resident of Utica, Oklahoma passed from this life in Durant, Oklahoma on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the age of 90 years 3 months and 7 days. She was born to Marshall A. and Jessie Maud (Pickerd) Hart on Saturday, June 30, 1923 in Dill City, Oklahoma. Opal was married twice in her lifetime first to Charles Mitchell on July 20, 1941 and next to David Griffith in November of 1978.
Opal was a woman who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers and cooking for her family and friends. Opal was a member of the Utica Baptist Church in Utica, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Griffith is survived by her son, Ray Mitchell and wife Peggy of Utica, Oklahoma; daughter, Peggy Frederick of Utica, Oklahoma; son, Bobby Mitchell and wife Betty of Utica, Oklahoma; son, Donnie Mitchell and wife Rae of Utica, Oklahoma; also survived by Brenda Russell and Edwin and Elwin Griffith; 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her daughter, Jannett Quarles; parents, Marshall and Jessie Hart; husbands, Charles Mitchell and David Griffith; great grandson, Colton Chreene; sisters, Margarite Anible and Irene Whitley; brothers, Marshall Hart, Kenneth Hart, Warren Hart and Charlie Hart.
Family Hour will be 7-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Services in honor of her memory will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Utica Baptist Church in Utica, Oklahoma with Brother Jay Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Opal's grandsons's.
