Dr. Blanche Jamison, born August 26, 1934, in Hopkins County, Texas to the late Anson and Matria Miller, passed away on July 3, 2016. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Guy Randall; and her grandson and his wife, Joshua and Sharon Randall. Blanche always knew she wanted to teach, and after earning her BA at East Texas State University, began her career in 1961, teaching English at Commerce High School in Commerce, Texas. She continued her education at East Texas State, earning her MA and Ed.D in English. In 1966, she began teaching at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma. In th early 1990's, Blanche was elected to the Durant School Board and served as president. She continued teaching at Southeastern until her retirement in 1997, after which she volunteered her time at the Writing Center at the University. She resided in Durant until shortly before her death. Blanche enjoyed sharing her love of world literature, but most of all she enjoyed learning from every one of her students. Blanche is loved and will be missed by many, but she is no longer in pain. A memorial service will be hold on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Eternal Rest Funeral Home, 1400 N. I had the honor of working with her and also under her leadership when Blanche was the Chairperson of the Department. She will be missed both as an educator and a human being.
