Comforted by family, Norm passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013, in Zion, Utah. He was born January 20, 1947 in Logan, Utah to Bailey and Joyce DeRosselli Smith. He married Diane Macfarlane in 1967, they later divorced. He married Dawna Eitner Gresham in 1981, they were sealed in the Ogden Temple for time and Eternity.

Raised in Ogden, Norm graduated from Ben Lomond High School, CLASS OF '65. He served 6-years in the Army Reserves Corps of Engineers 603 Artillery Unit. After attending Weber State College, he had many enjoyable and interesting job opportunities in the Ogden, area. He filled Design-Engineering positions at:

-Modular Construction - Manager

-Jetway - Designer of the "Jet-Walk"

-International Precision Built Homes - Designed many Northern Utah homes

-Prairie Schooner Restaurant - Designed the restaurant for Mr. Rasmussen

-Associated Pipe: Designed Power Process Piping Systems for Power Plants

-Western Zirconium - Facilities Designer

-White Truck/Volvo - Design-Engineer on the Autocar Semi-Truck

-Hawaiian Waterslide-Designer of Newgate and Theme-Park waterslides

-Morton Thiokol-Facilities Designer, worked on re-design of solid rocket booster, (after the "Challenger" disaster); Drawing & Detailer/Checker

-Morton International (Autoliv)-Ground Floor developing the technology for the modules for the first passenger and driver air-bag systems;also a checker. He was instrumental in developing drawing standards for the components and assemblies for the air bag modules.

Norm enjoyed his work, and was also an accomplished artist in oils and watercolors; he loved fishing, golf, and because of his love for horses, he cared for/trained up to 18 at a time and taught his children and grandchildren to ride and appreciate them. He is a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,and has held the positions of Home Teacher, Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School President for 8-yrs.

Norm leaves behind his "GREATEST LOVE" - his family; he is survived by his wife Dawna; children - Sheri Ellis (Tim), Ron Smith, Kandice Finch (Eric), Brandon Gresham (Heather), Jennifer Gresham-Frank, all of Utah; Lynsee Smith-Beck (Shawn), Nevada. He was "the best papa ever" to 9 grandchildren who adored him -Rachael, Mitchell, Gavin, Travis,Garrett, Aiden, Benjamin, Jesse and Xander. His sisters are: Peggy Jackson(Richard), Janet VanEerden (David), Utah and Paulette Trainor (Ed) Fla. He was preceded in death by his loving, Eternal parents Dorothy & Bailey Smith, his brothers Tom and Bill Smith.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Springdale Jolley-Gifford Cemetery, @ the end of Paradise Rd., Springdale, Utah. Norm enjoyed yard work and preserving the beauty of nature and living flowers; if anyone prefers to contribute funds, they will be used toward beautification of his grave-site and headstone tobe built in his memory and enjoyed by all who visit him.
