Beatrice Carr Obituary

Beatrice Jean Carr

Hurricane

Beatrice Jean Carr, age 83, passed away on Friday, June 26th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 5, 1931, in Glascow, Chariton, Missouri to Alva Madison Sapp and Fannie Lee Calvin.

She spent her first 14 years in Missouri. In 1946 she moved to Hurricane when her mother married Stanley D. Hinton. She attended Hurricane High School, where she met the late Jerald Lee Graff. They were married in 1951 and had 2 girls, Cherilyn and DeLana. Jerry died in 1958 in southern California, where they had been serving time in the Navy.

Bea met Richard D. Carr when he gave her a speeding ticket one August afternoon. Dick was a California Highway Patrolman at the time. Apparently he ended up paying for that ticket himself and always said that that was the best ticket he ever wrote! Dick and Bea were married April 1, 1960 in Upland, California and always enjoyed the good joke that they were married on April's Fools' Day. They just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Bea and Dick purchased a cattle ranch in northern California several years after they were married. There they raised their family of 4 boys and 2 girls. They decided to move back to Hurricane in 1985 and purchased the peach orchard where they now live. Bea was active in the LDS church and held many callings in the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She especially loved her Relief Society callings and was an excellent teacher. She had many hobbies and especially loved decorating and doing floral arrangements. She loved decorating for weddings and special occasions. She became an avid genealogist in her later years and was very proud of the 2 volume book she published on her ancestors. She also loved sewing, cooking, gardening, crafts and traveling. However, as anyone who knows her would tell you, she loved being with her family more than anything else. She loved being a mother and wife and she loved her grandchildren dearly. She recently wrote in a short autobiography that she did for one of her grandchildren, "I have a deep love for the gospel and hope that all of my grandchildren will stay true to its teachings."

She is survived by her husband, Judge Richard D. Carr, Hurricane, UT; her 6 children, Cheri Dickman (Bob Dickman) of St. George, UT; Pat Carr (Lynn Carr) of Mesa, AZ; DeLana Howes (Curt Howes) of Holladay, UT; Rich Carr (Sherry Carr) of Hurricane, UT; Chris Carr, of Washington, UT; and Matt Carr (Emily Carr) of Santaquin, UT; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Erma Burnell of Creswell, OR. She is preceded in death by a son, Richard Donald Carr II; her parents; a sister, Caryl Jane Sapp, and a brother, Clarence H. Sapp.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 1st, at 11:00 am in the Heritage LDS Chapel, 1178 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. Viewing will be from 9:00 am until 10:30 am on Wednesday morning at the Heritage Chapel. Interment will take place at the Hurricane Cemetery.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah, (435) 673-2454.
