John Hansen Obituary

JOHN E. "JACK" HANSEN John E. "Jack" Hansen, 78, passed away January 18, 2005 at his home in Mendocino, CA. Born May 1, 1926 in Berkeley, CA to Carl and Edith Hansen. Jack grew up in Oakland, CA, graduated from Oakland High School, enlisted in the Navy in 1944 during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, preceding his brother, Kenneth and cousin, Myron as a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and received a B.S. degree upon graduation in 1951. Jack joined his father at Hansen Coffee Company, a family-owned wholesale coffee roasting business located in Oakland, and was later joined by his brother, Ken as a partner. In 1965 Jack married Jeanette Mendoza, a teacher with the Oakland Public Schools. They moved to the Mendocino area after his retirement in 1977. Their first home was in Little River, CA but eventually relocated to Jeanette's childhood home in Mendocino where they have resided for the past 10 years. Jack's community service interests included membership in the Oakland Grand Lake Kiwanis and the Rotary Club of Mendocino. Jack was a very active volunteer at the Mendocino Community Library and served as an adult Bible teacher at the First Baptist Church of Fort Bragg where he especially enjoyed preparing for and teaching his classes on Sunday. Jack is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Mendocino, his brother Ken and his wife, Sylvia of Alameda, one nephew, four nieces, and three cousins. Committal has been made at Rose Memorial Park, Fort Bragg, CA. Friends are invited to attend memorial services at 11:00 a.m., January 29, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Fort Bragg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 901, Mendocino, CA 95460 or the First Baptist Church of Fort Bragg, P.O. Box 1597, Fort Bragg, CA 95437.
