Norm STANNARD Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Feb. 14, 2015.
STANNARD, Norm
July 30, 1944 – February 8, 2015
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Norm Stannard announces his peaceful passing on February 8, 2015 at the age of 70, following a brief illness.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Nancy, his sons Jason (Tara) in Calgary, Kevin (Leslie) in Yellowknife, brother Glen, sister Janice both in Winnipeg, and much loved grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin, Montana, Kyle, Alexa, and Ben. He was predeceased by his parents, Madeline and Gilbert, and sister Leigh (Arlene).
Norm was born and grew up in Winnipeg. He spent 8 years in the Air Force, over 30 years working in the airline industry in Edmonton and Yellowknife, and the last few years before retirement at Northwest Transport in Edmonton.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Norm will be missed for his kind hearted, quick witted, and hard working nature. Norm had an amazing love of animals and took great pleasure in his dogs and birds.
A Celebration of Life for Norm will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. J. Wismark and the staff at the Grey Nuns hospital for their kindness, support and care shown to Norm during his stay there.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Norm's honor to the Hope for Wildlife Society (hopeforwildlife.net), the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of one's choice.

Fond memories of a good/decent man from when I worked for Frontier Fishing Lodge and Norm was the "go to" man at NWT Trucking in Yellowknife. Lots of co-operation and lots of laughs. So sorry for your loss.

I first met Norm as a snot nosed loadmaster trainee with Northwest Territorial Airways in the spring of 1988 .
He was a great mentor and role model for the loadmaster group and I was honored to have had the privilege to have worked with Norm.
Sincerest condolences.

Norm hired me as a Hercules Loadmaster at Pacific Western Airlines in Aug 1972 which became the starting point to a 29 year career with PWA and then Canadian Airlines. Norm had a lot of confidence in a 19 year old kid from the Yellowknife ramp and for that I have always been grateful. He was a great guy, with a strong work ethic and a key contributor to the PWA Loadmaster group
becoming a proficient and integral part of the airline's flight crews.

Our sincerest condolences to Nancy and family
