Tore PURDY Obituary
December 20, 1985 – April 15, 2014
With heavy sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved son and brother, Tore Martin Purdy, on Tuesday, April 15, at the age of 28.
Tore will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Ray and Joyce; brothers, Ray and Daniel; grandparents, Roy and Elaine Nerdahl; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Don and Mary Purdy.
Tore was born in Edmonton, graduated from Strathcona High School, and began Law School at the University of Alberta. After Law School, he commenced his
law practice, to his Dad's delight, at Brownlee LLP.
Tore was a loving and caring son and brother. He was also a bright, inquiring, logical and active person. He took an avid interest in various topics, and was an amateur expert on statistics, history, geography, genetics, and of course, hockey. Through his blog Tore offered his unique statistical perspective of professional hockey. At Brownlee LLP, he was known as having a 'beyond his years' approach to legal problems. He was often called upon to assist with the review of legal issues in complex cases. He was honest and thoughtful, and would always give carefully measured and respectful responses.
A bright new star shines in the sky tonight. While Tore will not shine in our lives daily, we will be guided by his light from above.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014, from 6 – 9:00 p.m. at Connelly- McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. A Funeral Service to celebrate Tore's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, at Robertson-Wesley United Church, 10209 – 123 Street. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at the Rich Valley Cemetery, Rich Valley, AB. All are welcome to attend any of these services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.

I just heard the sad news today of Tore's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you cope with your loss. I feel really bad now Ray for sending you emails last week telling you how I was cheering for the Montreal Canadiens...hockey playoffs is the last thing on your mind right now.
I'd like to share a short story. I was Ray's assistant 1986-1993. I was working on Sunday when Ray came into the office with the 2 cutest little boys..Tore and Ray Jr. They were wearing adorable sweaters of white, blue and orange (Oiler colors). The response I got when I commented on the sweaters was "they're the wrong colors!"
I know how proud you were Ray when you told me that Tore was practicing law with you at Brownlee LLP.
Ray Jr.: I lost a twin sister...13 years later I still feel a part of me is missing but she's still with me as Tore will be with you always.

Tore was one of my best friends for many years. I will always remember the great times we had playing ESPN, debating hockey stats, and playing pond hockey. Tore was a caring, genuine and thoughtful an individual.
I would like to share one memory that really stands out to me, and always will. In 2007, when I was going through a difficult time, my favourite hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, came to town. This was also Crosby's first visit to Edmonton. Ray had season's tickets and Tore did his utmost to get those valuable tickets from him so he could bring me to the game. We went, had a great time and he expected nothing in return. This is just one example of how kind Tore was.
Words simply cannot express how much I will miss Tore. My thoughts and condolences are with the Purdy family.

I am so sorry and sad to hear about Tore. He was a genuinely nice guy, and the legal community is often short of people who are both competent and kind-hearted. Tore was one of those people. To the Purdy family,
I hadn't seen Tore in recent years, but I had the distinct pleasure of going through high school and undergrad with him. Tore and I often rode the #30 bus back from the U of A to Riverbend together, and whenever we saw each other we'd reconnect. I could always rely on Tore for a deep and knowledgable discussion, often about history, and his sharp wit meant that the ride always flew by, even when we were stuck in traffic from a foot of snow.
I was very sorry to hear of your loss, and I hope you can find some consolation in the way that Tore touched the lives of those around him. My thoughts are with you at this time.

Tore, was one of my son Stevens best friends, you need to know that Tore was very special to our whole family. Tore was always there when one of the boys needed him to do lawns, move furniture or just put together a line up for a road hockey game or ice hockey game. Ray, I was your assistant when Tore was born along with his brother. Then I met up with Tore at the law school where I was working and handed back a paper to a Purdy and I asked him if he knew Ray. I was surprised when he said "my dad". We had a really good chat. My heart goes out to you and Joyce and the rest of the family. Tore, we haven't spoken in years since high school. All that I'm reminded of is those daily public transit bus rides to school, and hearing all your deep insight on so many different walks of life. It was an absolute pleasure, and honor to have you in my life. You were a great friend, and I know that you would be glad to hear that your Montreal Canadiens swept the Tampa Bay Lightning. I will never forget the moments that we had landscaping for the five consecutive years that we had with another. You were always eager, punctual and a hardworking individual(One of our best!). The work may have been tedious, but you always managed to find a way to entertain Steve and I. The endless conversations of the Kievanrus, Ukrainian History, and hockey was something that we endlessly debated(I always lost). It is hard to believe that a week ago we were having those very same debates at the hockey draft. You will be dearly missed, as you played a big part in our lives.

Tore was a special guy in all our lives. He was always there and up for a great conversation about Hockey Stats or Ukrainian History(even if I had no idea what he was talking about) We are really going to miss him.
