1934 - 2017
On May 9, 2017 Frederika (Riet) Bland passed away in Edmonton, Canada at age 82. Riet is survived by Roger, her beloved husband of 56 years, two daughters Fiona (Bud) (Tiana (Andrew) and Alisa) and Amanda (Randy), and two grandsons, Mathew (Elaine) and Ryan (Nicole) and a niece, Maaike, and nephew, Joost, and their families in the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Theo (Anneke).
While she lived most of her life in Canada, she grew up in the Netherlands during the Second World War. She studied pharmacy in Amsterdam, later immigrating to the UK upon her marriage. She subsequently immigrated to Canada in the late 1960's. Devoted to her family, kind and generous in spirit and who genuinely liked people, but valued her privacy and never wanted to impose or be a burden. She will be sorely missed by her husband, children and grandchildren.
Private cremation has already occurred and in keeping with her wishes there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to Edmonton Community Foundation.
