Dr. Black was a wonderful, gentle man. He was an excellent radiologist. I used to work with him as colleagues. And Linda, please accept my condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It's difficult to realize that Dr. Black, a legendary figure in the history of Medicine in El Paso, and certainly deserving of the identifier ICON, has gone to eternity. Reading his obituary a few days ago, I had the feeling that he had written it himself or was the ghostwriter. His accomplishments, which individually and collectively were magnificent, are listed in the matter of fact style that was his trademark. As his Medical Colleague, although in a different Specialty, I saw his work ethic time after time. He realized that his role was to read the images, and he mastered all of the new technologies, in a meticulous manner and to verbally contact the referring provider to go over the findings, differential diagnoses, further radiology studies, etc. I can remember getting such calls even a month after the fact if the original communication could not be received due to a variety of obstacles. My final thought is that in his case, the surname BLACK was certainly fitting. Life certainly has its complexities, but watching Dr. Black you got the impression that he had a keen sense of simplifying things, black vs. white when one remembers X Rays prior to CD copies, and right vs. wrong in the biggest game of all, LIFE. Let's remember him by doing a little better every day that we walk on earth. Lloyd Krapin, M.D.
