Joe McGraw Obituary

Joe Henry McGraw June 4, 1934-January 2, 2011. Joe H. McGraw, 76, died peacefully at his home in Jasper, Texas, January 2, 2011 His goal was to die with dignity and grace as a testimony to his confidence and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and he did just that. Joe graduated from Jasper High School and The University of Texas. He served in the US Navy and was employed thirty years by Humble Oil and Refining Company, now known as ExxonMobil. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was active in the First United Methodist Church of Jasper, where he held many leadership positions. He served 12 years on the Board of Trustees for Lon Morris College and 11 years on the Jasper Public Library Board. He was a volunteer tutor for Jasper ISD and taught reading at the Region V Adult Learning Center. He loved the game of golf and was a master woodcarver. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy "Tas" McGraw; sons and their wives, Randy and Diana McGraw of El Paso, TX, John McGraw and Sonja Berry of Gilbert, AZ, James and Nancy McGraw of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers Bill McGraw and A. V. "Buddy" McGraw Jr.; sisters Tommie Leatrice Sherrod, Verna Eloise Hodges, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday January 6 at 1:00 pm First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: First United Methodist Church Jasper, Joe/Tas Scholarship Fund, 329 North Bowie, Jasper, TX 75951.
