Robert Huston Obituary

Robert E. "Bob" Huston, Sr., 82, of Albion, Pa., passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at his home. He was born February 16, 1934, in Albion, and was the son of Maurice Huston and Marion (Rossiter) Huston Grate.

Bob earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural education from Penn State University. He owned and operated Twin Spring Acres Farm from 1957 to 1997, when he retired. He was also one of the first to teach agriculture at Commodore Perry High School, where he taught for a year.

Following his retirement, Bob and Helen wintered for several years in Florida.

Over the years, Bob served on boards of many agricultural organizations, was secretary of the Albion Area Fair for 55 years, and state fair director, for the last ten years, for the State Fair Association. He also served as Township Supervisor for Conneaut Township in the Albion Area. He loved his cows at the farm, but most importantly, he loved his family.

Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Albion, where he served as lay leader for many years, sang in the choir, and served in many offices. His love of singing led him to join barbershop choruses in Ashtabula and Conneaut, Ohio. He was also a member of Albion Masonic Lodge #304.

Bob is survived by his wife Helen (Rothlisberger) Huston, whom he married in June 1955, in Washington, Pa.; his daughter Marcia (Charles) McCall of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons Richard "Rick" Huston (wife Sherry Crane-Huston) of Albion, Pa., and Robert E. "Bob" Huston, Jr. (wife Carolyn); a foster daughter Debra Olsen of Erie, Pa.; two sisters Joanne Wozneak of Warren, Pa., and Joyce Bowers of Locust Grove, Va.; three brothers Royce Huston of Albion, Pa., Ronnie Grate of Kansas, and Russell Grate of Colorado; six grandchildren Alexandra Huston-Lyons, Nicholas Huston-Lyons, Jeremy Crane-Huston, Derek Crane-Huston, Robert E. Huston III, and Michael Huston; and a step-grandson Joshua McCall; as well as nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters Jane Liston and Judy Grate.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church, 49 Franklin St., Albion, Pa., with Pastor Duk Hee Han officiating. Burial will follow in East Springfield Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, and on Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or to the Albion Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.

Helen and Family,

Our prayers are with you at this time of loss. Bob was an amazing person who touched the lives of many, including ours. He gave so much to his church and community. One of our fondest memeories of Bob was his singing voice. No one will ever sing "The Birthday of A King" like he did. So thankful for the assurance that he has now joined the heavenly choir. With much love and sympathy.

Looking back on those who influenced my life, I count Bob and the Huston family as key contributors to the joys and successes I have experienced. Bob and I shared a love of farming and music and a love for laughter, we had much in common. He and Helen were always supportive of my agriculture endeavors. I so much appreciated the opportunity Bob & Helen gave me to work on the farm and learn about agriculture on the job. His contagious laugh will be missed. He was a true giver and helper. We need more like Bob in our world today. May God's peace and comfort be with Helen and their family.
