David Bittner Obituary

David L. Bittner, 67, of Lawrence Park Twp., died Monday, December 14, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1942 in Altoona, Pa., son of the late James and Margaret Harris Bittner. He had resided in the Erie area for over 50 years. David was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He entered the military in 1968, having enlisted with the US Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. In 1974, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and immediately enlisted with the US Army Reserve where he spent 24 years. David had most recently been employed by Babcock Borsing Power Generation Co. (formerly Riley-Stoker) until his retirement. He had also been previously employed by the former Zurn Energy. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler's fan. Survivors include his beloved wife of 30 years, Bette L. Bittner; five children, Diana Litzel (Rusty) of Oklahoma, David L. Jr. of Erie, Jeffery Bittner (Chanda) of Erie, James Bittner (Tracey) of Erie, and Jay Bittner of Erie; two step-children, Edward Smith of Pittsburgh, and Dawn Richardson (Roger) of Florida; three brothers, James Harris of Wesleyville, his twin brother, George Harris, of Erie, and John Bittner of Harborcreek Twp.; two sisters, Elaine Dombrowski (Mark) of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Liz McFeeley of Geneva, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd. on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery will full military honors. To the Family of Dave. My Name is Joseph C. Gullo III. I am from Dunkirk/Brocton NY. I met Dave on 24NOV82, when I joined the USAR, 4/92 FA, Old French Road, in Erie pa. I had the Pleasure of Serving with Dave for 10 yrs. I got out of the reserves approx 1992 to join the National Guard in Dunkirk, NY. I didn't see Dave fro about 7 years. After that, 1999, I decided to get Back into the USAR, Back to my Beloved ERIE pa. Upon Re entry, ( Into the 542nd FP) I was told that Dave just re uped 1 week before I did. We didnt miss a beat & It was old times once again. Dave was A great Friend, Soldier, Sailor & just a wonderful Human Being. To his Wife, Bette & His children I would like to say that I Am very Honored to have Known & Serve with Dave. He certainly Walks with our Christ Now. He will always be in My Prayers & Thoughts forever. Thank you Dave for your Friendship over these past years. Friends Always, Joe.
