Robert Hund Obituary

Robert D. "Pa" Hund, age 77, of East Springfield, departed this world for heaven on Friday, January 22, 2016, after a courageous year-long battle against lung cancer.

He was born in Wilkensburg, Pa. on November 14, 1938, a son of the late Frank W. and Lucy Hamler Hund. He was taken in by his Aunt Ruth and Uncle Alan Cyphert in 1949 when his parents passed away.

After graduating from Saltsburg High School in 1956, where Bob was quarterback of the football team and varsity basketball team captain, he served in the United States Air Force. He retired from General Electric after 30 years, working in many capacities.

Bob was a faithful worshipper at the Federated Church of East Springfield. Besides being a passionate Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers fan, his favorite pastime was playing card games with family. Playing golf, traveling, and reading were his favorite hobbies.

"Pa" will be greatly missed and his memory treasured by all who knew and loved him. "Ta-ta!"

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas D. Hund and by his brother, Frank Hund.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Knauer Hund; three daughters: Kathleen Miller and her husband, Jeff, of San Diego, Calif., Mary Titch and her husband, Larry, of Corry, Pa., and Denise Hund of East Springfield; nine grandchildren: Jerad, Jessica, Jordan, Alyssa, Emily, Keith, Brett, Scottie, and Greg; two great-grandchildren: Hailey and Ariya; a sister, Norma Sokolowski of Fountain Valley, Calif.; two half-sisters: Linda and Cindy; and a half-brother, Artie. Bob is further survived by six cousins who were just like brothers to him: Wilmer, Al, Wes, Jack, Earl, and Don Cyphert.

A memorial service will be held at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard, on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Regional Cancer Center, 2500 West 12th St., Erie, PA 16505 or Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St. Suite 244, Erie, PA 16501.

Kathi,
Thinking of you during these difficult days. May you be comforted by the many wonderful memories of special moments with your dad. It's been many years since you & I have been in touch but seeing his name brought back many good memories of our childhood days.

Uncle Bob was a caring and loving man with a heart of gold. His laughter and joy were contagious.

Uncle Bob's first love was Aunt Carol and his girls, and that then extended to his sons-in-laws, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. You were all the center of his life, and whenever he spoke of you there was joy in his heart and and a twinkle in his eye.

My dad and Uncle Bob enjoyed cards, the Y, golfing, going to Pittsburgh Pirate games, and traveling. They had a close brotherly love to the end of dad's life. Uncle Bob was there for my dad through the last days of his life on earth, and was a support that he (and us girls) could rely on. I am so grateful for the love and care he gave to my dad, even to the last day of listening to a Pittsburgh Pirates game.

May the angels of God welcome Uncle Bob into paradise to sing the praises and glory of God.

Karen Hund

PS...I can see them laughing together in paradise over a game of cards!
