Robert Ploss Obituary

Robert D. Ploss, 78, of Spencer Rd., Corry, Columbus Twp, Pa., died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at UPMC-Hamot in Erie, Pa. Mr. Ploss was born on September 18, 1932 in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Delbert M. and Melissa Pero Ploss. He was raised and educated in the Corry area. As a young man Robert worked at the Button Dairy Farm in Panama, N.Y., before serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Ft. Churchill in Canada and the Army Base in Yuma, Ariz. Following his discharge, he worked at Corry Brush Block for a few years before starting at McInnes Steel Co. He worked there for over 40 years, retiring in 1996. Robert was a member of the McCray United Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post #264, the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed archery and rifle hunting, fishing, and caring for his pets. Robert escpecially enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters; Shirley Moore, Evelyn Button, Annis Ploss and Nettie Ploss, and two brothers; John Ploss and Delbert Ploss, Jr. Robert is survived by his wife Caroline Walton Ploss, whom he married September 15, 1953 in Corry, Pa. He is also survived by two daughters; Roberta Jones of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Peggy Alford and her husband David of Safford, Ariz., and two sons; Chester Ploss and his wife Laurie and David Ploss and his wife Sheila all of Corry, Pa. He is also survived by a sister Mary Alice "Toot" Kestel of Erie, Pa., three brothers; Alfred Ploss and his wife Sylvia of Erie, Pa., George Clyde Ploss of Corry, Pa., and Burton Ploss and his wife Martha "Jean" of Columbus, Pa., 11 grandchidren, 15 great grandchildren, one great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa. on Thurday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday at the McCray United Methodist Church, 19463 State Hwy 89 Corry, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service there at 11. Rev. David Ewing will officiate. Burial will be at Brooks Rocks Cemetery, Spring Creek, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert D. Ploss Memorial Fund c/o of the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, PA16407
