John Howard Obituary
John was born on September 26, 1950 in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Chester and Florence M. (Nesbitt) Howard. John served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War time era.
He retired after 38 years of dedicated service from El Kem Metals in Ashtabula, Ohio and because he wanted something to do, he worked at Giant Eagle in Girard for five years. John was a member of the Girard American Legion and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed dairy farming. It was a life passion to him. He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid bowler and participated in many bowling leagues in the area with his top score being a 299. No matter where John went, he could always strike up a conversation with someone. He was a natural people person.
John is survived by four children: Sam (Nancy L.) Howard of Kingsville, Ohio; Samantha Howard of Madison, Ohio; Wayne and Seth Howard both of Conneaut, Ohio; and two brothers: Charles (Janet) Howard and Elmer (Robin) Howard both of East Springfield, Pa. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive and many nieces and nephews.
The Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home will host a Gathering of Friends on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. in Memory of John. Please come and share his life with his family and also share a condolence or light a candle in his memory at

So very sorry for all of you, Elmer, Charlie and your spouse's. I can remember babysitting all three of you boys, such fun, yet such challenges. I can remember how much fun it was when we were young and neighbors. John will be missed greatly, so big as a man and yet a gentle spirit. Again so very sorry for your loss.

John will be greatly missed at the manor. He was a bright light to many staff and residents. We always remember his being santa for the party every year and his friendly way he had with everyone. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of his life.
